Why was the blonde spared?

I thought she was just as bad as the redhead and brunette, but they didn't do anything to her.

The cops came before they had a chance.

Actually, the cops came right as the remaining outcast was killing himself. Since I thought about it though, I assume they were planning on torturing the blonde as well, but then Emily said, "I've had enough", so they decided to end it. I still wish the blonde would have got hers though. Also, I guess we're supposed to assume she commits suicide since she was seen about to take pills in the bathroom.

You're right. Kurtis stopped down the plan when he came back after calling the cops, and killing Dane. I'm sure that chick was next.
Yep looks like the blonde couldn't hack it and did just that.

That was actually one of the things I did not like about the movie. It was supposed to be about people learning their lesson about mistreatment of others and the ultimate point was that the bullies were supposed reevaluate their treatment of others due to what happened. That she took the coward's way out showed yet again that the message was completely lost on these people, the was a coward to begin with which was why she took part in ganging up on Emily like that and she ended the movie a coward as well.

Although, it was nice that they at least left it ambiguous if she actually followed through with it. I think the very last scene shows her with the pills in her hand about to go through with it and the viewer gets to decide if she went through with it, stopped before she did or if someone came in and stopped her. Do you think it would be make for a better story if she went through with it or if she didn't go through with it and ultimately ends up living with her guilt?

reply

She probably thought that she didn't deserve to live after people suffered for her actions. That is not cowardly.

If we are going by the sequence of events in the movie, then logically the blonde was fatefully spared as Emily and Jack decided they had had enough and stopped.

If we are going by plot devices, she was probably spared to show the residual affects of her guilt (from being a bully) after having had one big wake up call. It can be argued she was also suffering from "survivor's guilt." Even though none of her peers were actually murdered, she still got away scott free, which can be related to survivor's guilt.

Either way she "got what she deserved" from the bullied perspective.

Nice spoiler warning jerk!!

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

Good movie, though.

She wasn't exactly spared, they show her at the end taking pills. She had to sit there and watch all her friends be tortured. The only reason they didn't choose her was because she didn't say anything, everyone they tortured said something to the outcasts which led to them being tortured.

The blonde (I forgot her name) is going to have psychological damage the rest of her life because she didn't try and save her friends by saying something

reply

Her name was Kelli. If she had plead for her friends to be sparred, it wouldn't have done any good at all.
