So Moby Dick is a sequel to this movie?

This post is for those who are more or less familiar with the plot of Moby Dick. There is no direct story-wise connection between the events of this movie and the events described in Moby Dick. But it is interesting to speculate what could be the most reasonable connection. I think it would be reasonable to view Moby Dick as a sequel to the events described in In the Heart of the Sea. Moby Dick can be viewed as the continuation of the life of the captain George Pollard. It was stated at the end of this movie that Pollard tried to find the giant whale again but failed. Moby Dick changes Pollard's story a bit and let's him encounter the whale again, after many years, to try to get revenge.

this movie was ruined by Chris Hemsworth

Melville was a character in this movie, and 'Moby Dick' was the story he wrote in response to hearing this tale. He wanted to 'tell the story' without actually telling the story (because of what actually happened), so Moby Dick is what he came up with.

Did you watch this movie?
Did you?

There's a character called Herman Melville in the movie, who wants to turn the story of The Essex into a fiction novel.

Moby Dick is not a sequel, it's the fictionalized account of this story...
