I think he meant plot and dialogue quality - and I agree with that.
Master and Commander teleported you into its timeline, you were basically a crew member and everything was very authentic and believable without trying too hard/being pathetic.
I and not say the same about Heart of the Sea.
There are so many scenes that make me cringe, basically all scenes with Hemsworth, when he gives us his strong manly "this is all I know!" kind of attitude, when they leave port and he, after receiving orders from the captain, totally over-motivated starts yelling out orders with this cringy, cringy attitude that tries so, SO hard to make us believe that he is this free-spirited strong individual that lives for his passion and...oh God I need to puke, wait........ and who is such a stinking white-knight type of person.
Or the scene where he drops the boy overboard, holding him at his ankle, blubbering about King Neptune. It was night, there was fog. If he would have slipped, the boy would be gone - no chance to save him, none - hence it was highly unrealistic, only for dramatic effect.
When movies have to show BS to get some drama - they suck.
Simple, really.
