Some Love for the Soundtrack (please)

What many topics and complaints there are on the adaptation of the story, the acting, the accents of the actors, the colors, the sounds, etc. - And, sure, I'm guessing some of the arguments are justified. I haven't seen the movie, but I have seen what it looks like and I've heard it's quite a snoozefest from people who know what they're talking about. - I'll see it on a rainy day or something.

But the movie aside; Can I just say what a great soundtrack it has!
I'm quite upset to find that it wasn't even NOMINATED for an Oscar. Was it even in the running for one?...
I'm not exactly saying it's the most amazing soundtrack and it's completely "Oscar-worthy", but I have been listening to it on its own a lot and it's just adventurous and moving, atmospheric, emotional, mysterious, a little scary at times even, and it just doesn't get any recognition.
If this was by Hans Zimmer or someone like that, people would have been praising it to the heavens. I mean, I (used to) love Hans Zimmer, but I've listened to the "BvS" soundtrack, and what is thát?... I'm glad he decided to quit the superhero-genre, because I can definitely hear the inspiration is gone. Besides, he was better before say 2010 and all the way back to the '80s.

But anyway, credit to Roque Baños for creating a soundtrack that might as well have been by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard combined. (It does occasionally sound like 'Batman Begins' and some other soundtracks). - It looks like he didn't even get an alternative recognition according to his awards and nominations page on here.
So I highly recommend giving it a chance on its own if you just like cinematic music, even if you don't like the movie for whatever reason. This soundtrack is great, and it even deserves the support by purchasing it.

I do have to warn for one thing; It doesn't sound that good in terms of the actual audio. It's overblown on the louder parts, and there's too much low-end while it lacks on the high-end.
So, I'm sorry, but no credit to whatever studio mastered it... :( - (That's not an attack, it's just disappointing.)
I've actually ripped and edited it for my own enjoyment, as I'm a musician and audio-engineer myself (albeit independently), and it sounds much better now.

But as for the music itself, it has many ups and downs in terms of action, while staying quite fresh throughout. And especially in the final track it hits a note I didn't expect they would go. But ("musical spoiler" :P ) they did, and it's beautiful. Credit to the vocalist on that, as well.
Anyway, go listen to it, and enjoy!

As for the people who díd give it a chance and recognition, be it before or after reading this; What did you think of it and what did you like/dislike about it? - Let me know, cause I'd really like to see if there's anyone who cared to notice it, as opposed to all the discussions about everything bút the soundtrack, which people will often say makes a huge part of the experience of a movie.

Maybe people are just so bothered about things in the movie that they couldn't enjoy it? Or maybe they just think it's fine and there's nothing wrong with it so they don't feel the need to discuss or complain about it?... Let's see...

I finished reading the book and watched the film the same day.I didn't mind the changes and choices directors have to make.(on truth the men from the Essex did not see the whale again after the ship sank).
Like you, I absolutely loved the score and would like to hear your version, though I doubt my untrained ears could tell the difference.

This is one of the best film scores of the year, and perhaps the last five years. The first half of the Cd is pretty regular, but the last half is SO beautiful. The driving track 11 that climaxes with the tolling navel bell about half way through the track is the beginning of the memorable part for me. I adore this music!

I thought the ending track before the closing credits was simply epic. The closing credits song with the femsle singer was great too. The film and those closing tracks was chill inducing and tearjerking. :D I feel like a Putz writing that but it's true.

I guess that's what makes it an epic. It's ability to stir the enotions. The human condition.

The song before the closing credits reminded me of a similar score from the film "Tenderness". I'm a fan of musical score.
