Still Pissed Off...

I'm still rather peeved that this show ended and so has been my mom. For the most part I've boycotted AMC over the loss of this show and my mom has completely. We both loved the show and were really pissed they canceled it.

I just watched it all in a row last week again. Its always nice to dish it back out and watch it again. No, the ending did not give any closure. It should still be going. Truxton didn't care that Will was going to try to expose them because he figured he was going to die anyway so he didn't care. He did what he wanted to do, the evil person he is.

This show should still be on. Boycott AMC and tell them how much its a joke they canceled it. They probably won't listen, I tried and they ignored me. But try anyway. Keep responding to the rubicon petition by writing and adding yourself. Maybe someday they will listen.

Sincerely,

Stella Link

I just watched it. After the first episode, I was waiting for a reason on why they canceled. There has to be something. Poor acting? Or bad plot? Too much sex or violence?

This show is flawless. There is nothing wrong with it. The pacing is great. It is smart, I can't tell who is the friend or foe. There is real drama in the lives of the supporting cast.

Hollywood does not like smart TV shows. They canceled Firefly, Caprica and a host of others.

reply

Firefly and Caprica were nothing compared to this. Specially Caprica. But they were good anyway. Missed Caprica for a while but still miss Rubicon. :(

reply

100% agree. I would be interested to know of other shows you rate highly?

Cheers

Well, apart from Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Dexter and few others like that I try to watch more BBC or British shows, like Sherlock, In The Flesh, Broadchurch. Problem is they don't make enough episodes of any of those shows, so its mostly waiting around whole year for next season. Its good that they make just enough eps of Top Gear and Dr. Who at least! There are many other shows I haven't tried yet.

reply

Similar to me. The recent seasons of TWD have been extremely inconsistent and lacklustre imo. Similarly Dexter basically collapsed spectacularly after season 4 (although it was already going down hill by then). The others are all strong shows yeah.

There are a couple of excellent shows that have slipped under the radar.

Terriers was phenomenal, a masterpiece cancelled after one season.
Banshee is a little trashy but enormously compelling. Worth a shot.
The State Within is a fantastic BBC drama with Jason Isaacs.
Line of Duty is also a very strong and exciting British BBC drama, but in typical BBC tradition falls apart in the final episode (both seasons!)
The Book of Daniel is similarly worth a watch. Another early cancellation but brilliant show.
Lastly, if you've not seen Boardwalk Empire, the first three seasons are absolute gold.
Oh actually, True Detective was really strong as well.

These are basically the best dramas I've seen in the last few years.

I was on the board reminiscing about Rubicon and saw your post. It has a list of all the shows I watch. The Game on bbc america is worth checking out. I'm watching it now.. also Vera, Orpan Black, Copper and Ripper street. All intellegent, thoughtful and well worth the time.
I still miss Rubicon. I need to watch it again. I put all the episodes onto disc from a dvr I had that made discs when it aired..so, I got lucky. It is prob on streaming too. The shows I recomended are, btw...

reply

I did same, have the whole series on disk somewhere. :)

reply

I still miss Rubicon too and am at a loss to explain why it was cancelled! Vera is great, also Shetland, Hinterland, Case Histories and definitely Happy Valley. Agree that State Within, Line of Duty and True Detective are great too. A big fan of Homeland also, especially this last season, has me on the edge of my seat!

reply

And I just saw that homeland was snubbed for any golden globe award!

reply

O.k. I have been trying to track this show down to watch and/or buy for the last five years. I can't find it anywhere (not on Amazon). I saw it when it originally aired and fell in love with it, especially when you think about how on target it really was.

So, tips on getting access to this show (DVD, etc.)? Much appreciated.

reply

Well,I just tried to do a search for my entire ROKU and got nothing. I am at a loss. I did copy the series on my dvr at the time. If I had the time I could burn it and send it to you. I am afraid I would get a lot of requests, however. I just don't have time right now. It would cost nothing...pennies,really. I don't know if you have a ROKU or what you stream on..but I can check every so often.

reply

No worries. You probably would get way too many requests. Its totally frustrating. BTW, I tried to get it at a used DVD and the dude searched and said the ID # associated with all DVDs has been deleted from the database. So, there is no record of it anywhere. Thanks much.

reply

I had a DVR that recorded to disc when Rubicon was on. So I have the season recorded. I was just going to watch again, which I haven't before, because I figure,I'll just be back to the cliff hanger, never dealt with.

I'm writing because your post felt like it was coming right out of my own head at the time.,lol

reply

You are right on the mark!!!
I know this post is a yr old, but every once in awhile I can't get the show out of my mind, I enjoyed it that much. So, I go to the boards to see if I'm alone and if anyone has heard any rumblings that this or a similar intellengent work is being produced.
I think the reason why it was canc was because as the season went on, it lost alot of viewers. It was such an intellegent, thoughtful series, paced in a slow and thoughtful way. I thought that there were enough people that wanted, were really waiting for an intelligent series that required some smarts from the audience. But I was wrong;it had to be because of ratings. And the ratings were bad because it was just too intelligent for the numbers it takes with the competition these days...Too bad.
I'm watching the bbc america's"The Game"...a great spy thriller set in the 70's. Nothing like Rubicon, but enough like it , so that it reminded me of Rubicon.

reply

Carnivale was another great show which was cancelled. Series 2 was, alas, rather dumbed down but was still top notch.

reply

It was just too smart for most people I think. And more than a little bit plausible.
But 2 and a 1/2 men is STILL on.
FML.

reply

^^^this. I'm not sure about the plausible part..but definitely too cerebral for most viewers. I thought it might have fared much better on a premium channel like hbo or showtime...kind of like homeland.

Look Spike!

reply

This was the first smart American show I got hooked on. Just watched on Amazon Instant video, the whole season in three days (I had some time off to veg). Couldn't wait to get to the second season, and like so many, was totally bummed. This is why I stick to the BBC for smart programming.

reply

AMC resurrecting The Killing just to rub our noses in it

reply

Yeah, fsck The Killing. Rubicon was a WAY better show than that disjointed bleh show.

reply

I bailed on "The Killing" after one episode. Rubicon, on the other hand, was an excellent show.

reply

I, too, LOVED Rubicon! When I first heard it was cancelled, I knew the report was in error. I searched for something accurate, then abandoned hope when I found the cancellation notice was accurate. What a kick in the stomach!

I did agonize through the first season of The Killing, but the only way I can describe it is, "sepia". The script was sepia, the delivery was sepia, the cast was all sepia, the camera work was all sepia. I developed no fondness or attachment to a single character, so it is the only show I've ever "hate-watched". I didn't bother giving the second season a casual glance.

I stuck with AMC to see the final, brilliant season of Breaking Bad (after a hiatus long enough to birth a new generation), but I'll never watch another of their original series. They're now taboo for me, and it's because they never gave Rubicon a decent chance. Breaking Bad was my last love-fest with this greedy, impatient network. It demands a patience and dedication from their viewers that they're not willing to return.

reply

I'm still pissed too. I can't believe they ended this show after one season. I would love to know the reason, and it ain't ratings. Mad Men had low ratings as well, the first season.

reply

Yes they cancelled it cause of low ratings. And the other reason was that the walking dead had great ratings so it was a nobrainer. Thx AMC

reply

I would be glad if they consider second season but is this ever happened? I mean its 3 years now, are there any shows that came back after 2/3 years?

reply

Yes The Comeback is coming back to HBO and it was cancelled in 2005,so it could happen.

reply

just when it started to get really good and things began making sense.. yet, new twists were developing.. cancelled! *beep* figures. way to go amc. BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!

reply

I'm going to download it now as I wasn't around when it aired. As for boycotting a channel, I don't bother anymore. I did it to FX after they cancelled The Riches. It did nothing but make me miss the first 5 seasons of both Sons of Anarchy and Justified. Never again will I boycott a channel it does no good.

reply

Haven't watched another AMC show since. This would be a great show on Amazon or HBO, etc. Still miss this show. Likely to return -- no. Would be nice if they did a two or three part wrap up series of shows. Oh well.
