I'd bet some major money melvin is not from Texas City

That was a really $hitty way to bash somebody for no reason. I live in this exact area and the reality is: it is nothing like this and the people that live in the area act nothing like the way they are portrayed here. Texas City, Clear Lake (WHERE THE JOHNSON SPACE CENTER IS LOCATED) are nothing like the swamplands portrayed here. People in this area don't talk or act like this. I agree with the OP, it was a poor Hollywood attempt to portray a TX sterotype.

melvine's right. I have extended family from Texas City going way back. Spent time there myself. I've also lived all along the LA/Mississippi coast and bayous. There are many different types of people, accents and scenery. The last thing I would have thought of was Texas City while watching this. This movie looked to be more like LA back bayous.

This thread is so unnecessarily rude!! I agree with AgentOrangeJulius. I’m from League City which is upper-middle class and has some of the best schools in the state of Texas and the country! Nothing like the movie.

For some reason they did all the filming in Louisiana, which is why it looks just like Louisiana.

We have plenty of movies filmed in Texas and there was no reason not to use this area for the movie. I'm guessing kickbacks since they sure didn't make any money at the box office!

I am from Dallas, Texas and I always hate the way Texans are portrayed in movies! We do not sound as country as they attempt to portray...it is annoying

OK. Maybe instead they should have done a movie about the murder of James Byrd Jr. in Jasper, (East) Texas. Byrd was chained to the back of a pickup truck, which dragged the black man along a rural East Texas road. The perpetrator then dumped what was left of his shredded body outside a black church cemetery in 1998. Then there's Longview, Texas, which has the distinction of being named the third most dangerous city in Texas, right behind Houston and Dallas.

There already is a movie about the killing of James Byrd. It is called Jasper, Texas. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0335185/

So glad to hear an enlightened opinion. I'm happy such a non judgmental person such as yourself is around to tell us all how we should live. I bet you're better than all the Christians you mock because of this?

Good for you.. good for you!!

Looks More Like The Areas Around Memphis

I live in the Texas City area and I have to say, I thought the scenery was pretty spot-on. Especially the scenes at convenience stores. Exactly like the stores you see between 146 and the coast.
