If You Could Have Made The Show

What would have you done if you could have made this show. What would have the premise been? What kinds of characters would you have made? Who would have you cast?

i would have brought back mostly the old characters and gone for a desperate housewives angle, just without the kids etc, headed by Heather Locklear of course. the premise would have been a invitation for all the old characters to have met up again, eg a funeral of 1 of the past characters or a marriage to get them all back together again and then some1 froom there past blackmailing them all with dirty secrets thay all have committed since the orignal series ended, these blackmail threats would have made them all stay around in Melrose place land to discover who is out to get them all and go from there.o bring back along amanda, peter, alison, jo, jane, michael, Sydney but
done in a PROPER way this time and properly thought out, the same with amanda's back story, kyle, sam, lexi, jake, taylor, billy and new faces also. AND not be on THE CW,im thinking a CABLE network, eg FX etc. no kimberely or matt as they on desperate housewives. lots of bitchiness and bed hopping and backstabbing and crazy characters kust like the original.

Actually that sounds good, but the problem with that so many of the old cast members have basically moved on, it probably wouldve been hard to get enough of them to make another show out of it besides the few that showed up in this one like Michael, Sydney and Admanda. Most others either were in other shows or wasnt interested in more than cameos like Jo and Jane characters. Maybe they couldve gotten a few more but it wouldve had to rely on new cast members as well for it to work.

But generally the idea sounds great!

I think the only real change I would have made was make it so Sydney faked her death (I guess twice now) for some reason. That would have been the only mystery. Sydney was the selling point that got people interested in the revamp, so it was odd one of the first things they did was kill her right off.

Also, some, not all but SOME of the other characters need to be children of the original cast, not just David and Violet. For instance, I would not have been surprised at all if somehow Ella turned out to be Amanda's daughter.

I would not let Amanda back in the show. The whole ending of the original series was her going off with Peter to avoid a murder charge. So, we are expected to believe that she got tired of Peter, went to NY then BACK to LA where she should have murder charges pending??

Heck, they should just bring back Brooke. They are so great at bring characters back from the dead.

To be honest, it was not a bad show if the stupid antics of the original cast members were not there. Please, two cast members resurrected from the dead (Sydney and Amanda). Did they ever explain how Sydney is alive and well?

I would've kept some of the characters...

Like Auggie, Violet (write her differently), David (as Jakes son), Drew, Lauren and Ella. I think I would have wrote the other two characters out because they were too cliche as Billy and Alison.

But then I would have brought back Alison and Amanda. They would be the faces of WPK. Caleb would still be involved as Ella's boss, but he follows orders from Alison and Amanda. Mostly Amanda ;) who shows up from NYC a lot sooner.

Amanda still has a billionaire boyfriend and is broke. She is trying to get as much cash as she can (this is a mystery why, other than the fact that she's broke, maybe needs money to bail someone out...?). No one realizes she is scheming at WPK, except for Ella and that storyline proceeds as normal.

Sydney is still the landlord and not dead, she is an avid art dealer. Violet is still her daughter, but Sydney denies it. Amanda is after Sydney for artwork, but Sydney refuses to help a "criminal". Violet meets Auggie, the sous-chef, and moves in with him. Sydney attempts to make Violets life hell because Sydney and Auggie had a thing, plus Violet gets along well with the other tenants. So, Sydney of course "evicts" Violet, until Jane gets involved.

Jo is looking to rent an apartment while Jane is passing through and holding up at Sydneys. Jo is tied to WPK (photographer) while Jane is trying to get Alison to hook her up with a design deal. Amandas embezzling ways would still continue and Jo is on her trail. Jane black mails Amanda and Amanda in turn makes life hell for Ella who wants to be like Amanda.

The back stories for how Sydney met the crew would be the same, with minor tweaks. She meets Auggie at Alcoholics Anonymous. Violet is her estranged daughter. David is Jakes son and searching for his dad (so he's not rich). He has a fling with Sydney and meets Jo who knows his dad. Sydney notices Ella's "potential" on the street.

Lauren and Michael are at the Hospital. Drew works there also. He is still after Michael. Lauren still struggles with tuition and works as a call girl, while in a love triangle with David and Drew. She eventually loses David to Ella and remains friends with Drew, but harbors feelings for him while keeping her double life secret.

Michaels connection to Sydney remains the same. He saved her after season 5 and she "faked" her death. She came out of hiding years later, making a plea bargain and doing minimum time. While in jail she met Lexi who told her of Amanda's whereabouts. Lexi also helped Sydney with an art connection as Sydney was already trying to get into that field.

So my cast:

Jane (13 episodes)
Michael (18 episodes)
Ella (18 episodes)
Sydney (18 episodes)
Auggie (18 episodes)
Violet (18 episodes)
Drew (18 episodes)
Lauren (18 episodes)
Caleb (18 episodes)
Jo (18 episodes)
Amanda (13 episodes)

Guest starring or re-occurring:

Lexi (2 episodes)
Taylor (4 episodes)
Peter (2 episodes)
Alison (6 episodes)

I never cared for Jonah or Riley hahaha. Sorry Jonah and Riley fans.

I agree with zodiac19702002-887-124778. Amanda shouldn't of came back especially since she was going to serve 25 to life if she did. As far you thinking this show wasn't bad well I'd beg the differ. It sucked. For starters they destroyed all of the original characters just to prep up a bunch of new characters all of which were pretty much faceless to begin with.

I'd also like to add that of the biggest mistakes they made with reboot was making Victor Webster's character gay especially when the fans wanted him and Ella to hook up as well. What a waste.

It amazes me that in the original show we've gone from D&D to AWA to Sterling/Conway (all advertising agencies) to the new shows WPK's (a crappy PR firm). I mean WTF?

No wonder the show tanked.

Also no offense ShotOfPoison but most of those ideas are pretty bad to tell you the truth.

reply

No offense taken :D

The show tanked because it was slow. No one cared for the characters. The original Melrose had a flair that made people fall for the cast... when season 2 proceeded and crazy stuff started happening to the characters it made the show a hit because it became a household "name".

My ideas are bad because I based them off of the current show. I didn't think it was bad, but the whole "murder mystery" storyline was pretty... dated. Considering that in 2008 it was done, for example, on True Blood.

I tried to fix it, but I don't know.

If it were really up to me I would have brought back original characters ONLY. But since we were given the reboot and I think it had "Melrose-ish moments" (Lauren drug overdose, David's fight scene, Michael's Peter-esque moment, psycho Violet) I wanted to work with it :\

I really thought Caleb was an all right character. Ella was my favourite. I liked Lauren. Auggie was HOT. But ya otherwise it was bad and not sooo good it's bad that it goes back to good again.

Thanks. ShotOfPoison.

I honestly don't believe that anything could of saved this show to be honest with you. The original show (along with the original Beverly Hills 90210) was pretty much dead by the end of 90's anyway. It was a huge mistake on the CW's behalf in bringing MP back in the first place along with 90210 since they both already had there runs.

To build on this, perhaps Amanda could be protecting Peter, who everyone still thinks is dead but she is still married to.

Lauren and Michael are at the Hospital. Drew works there also. He is still after Michael. Lauren still struggles with tuition and works as a call girl, while in a love triangle with David and Drew. I kind of like this.

Same!

Forgive me but did they ever explain why Sydney's death was faked? And David being Michael's son. Who was his mother? The only fesable returnee is Jo.

Seriously, with all the crappy shows now-a-days this isn't nearly as bad as some.

reply

There was a scene right after the car accident, where Sydney was "killed" during season 5, and Michael met Sydney at the hospital. He faked her death for her in order to protect her, because when she was on the stretcher she talked about wanting to die. She assumed people were out to get her.

Something along those lines. The writers of new MP certainly did ignore a lot of classic MP facts.
