stuff that makes me frown as a parent

yes I know MSHSS is for kiddies & I am excited about that this will be my little guy's segue into what will hopefully be a lifelong love of the genre.

So I'm previewing the show and there was this gross subplot involving the team being miniaturized & traversing through Hulk's snot. Nasty.

Is that kind of a one-time frowner or are there other things I might know about before I let my son watch the show. Thanks.

reply

Well, near the end of episode 1, Fin Fang Foom falls on The Moleman and farts.

If snot makes you frown, than yes. Although I worry that you will have to limit quite a bit of your son's tv shows, in addition to MSHSS.

Lighten up. Little boys love snot and fart jokes and so do big boys (unfortunately). My son has watched since he was 3 and loves the show.

Yeah, just gave the show another screening & I don't get the fart, belch, & booger jokes. Seems so unnecessary. As far as the toys & merchanizing, I'm all aboard, but as a parent, I won't let him watch it. Maybe Brave & the Bold wil be more age-appropriate (I haven't seen it yet).

You are a real American Parent in the year 2014 and you won't let your kid watch something because there are boogers in it? ...Seriously. In a world of rated R "Superhero" movies there are far worse things than a little snot. Get a grip and be a parent, not a psychopath.

Frankly a lot of the 'gross humor' in this show is pretty tamed in comparison to a lot of the other children cartoons out there. Gross humor barely bothers me (I grew up watching a lot of adult shows, movies) and I find myself looking away from half of them.

reply

If you thinks that's bad, never dare look at the kids' cartoon Grossology, as you can guess from the title, that's the the type of stuff this show features, and to me is better than SHSS. Lol the kids on Grossology study farts, boogers and armpits at the scientific level.

"what is your major malfunction numbnuts?!!"

I think the gross-out and slapstick humor is harmless. But there are other things that do concern me as a parent of a 3-year-old who is crazy over superheroes.

-The violence. It's certainly not as bad as an ordinary action cartoon aimed at elementary school age kids, but I still find the amount of violence surprising considering the target audience. The makers try to be subtle at times, but there is still a lot of explicit punching, kicking, tackling, and tossing. And a lot of it is unnecessary. The heroes themselves are constantly slugging each other as they bicker. I'm not one of those parents who is worried that violent television will cause my kid to become a psycho. But I am concerned about the monkey-see-monkey-do proclivities of toddlers, especially now that my son is in preschool.

-The pace and volume of the show. Why do tv show creators feel that a kid show has to be rllyrlly FASTFASTFAST asif kidscant pay attn if things slow down to an ordinary pace? Everything about the show is frenetic and spazztic. It's also noticeable in how quick everyone talks. AND MANY CHARACTERS DON'T TALK THEY JUST YELL! WHY!?! This is really odd because lots of shows made for babies are intentionally slow and calm because they know that babies developmentally cannot follow very fast events, physiologically and psychologically.

I haven't given up on the show yet, but these observations are giving me second thoughts. I wonder if I should just skip them and jump right to X-men TAS and Avengers EMH.

You parents sound really stupid. You are the reason why animated Tv Shows where dumbed down for so long. When I was a kid I watched Batman The Animated Series, Spawn and MTV Spider-Man. Booger and fart jokes are not inappropiate. Punching is integral to Superhero Shows.

I love classic monsters.

And the reason why Derpy from "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" was labeled "offensive" - twice.

*Yes, I'm a brony.*

Batman TAS is a great show, but would you show it to your 3-year-old?

reply

Yes

I love classic monsters.
