are people getting paid to write positive reviews on this?

I don't know what to think. I had my doubts about watching the film, and then I came to imdb to help me make up my mind and I saw surprisingly good reviews all over the place, so I thought oh wow, It must be amazing, but nope. Very slow, bad acting, bad acting, bad acting, terrible ending.

But i'm willing to change my review if everyone's getting paid, obv.

Haaave you met Ted?

The rating (6.2) can be called average at best - and I don't think the producers have enough money to do that, the film itself suffered from lack of proper funding I suppose.

reply

6.2 is not really average for IMDB, not with 1600 votes.

I got 2 dollars to give it 8... 2 DOLLARS! Damned paperboy won't leave me alone

Regardless of the fact that this is one of the better zombie movies of the last decade does not make it a good film. Yes, it had fantastic scenery and stuff that we hadn't seen in a zombie movie, but I'm surprised people are excusing the absolute lack of plot and pacing problems that were present throughout. It was a step in a better direction for zombie films, for sure, but was barely a notch above SyFy ty movie fare in my opinion.

You're Welcome.

I am in total agreement. I heard amazing things about The Dead and I waited and was sooo excited... and it sucked. It was really slow. Acting was terrible. Effects were good, as were the locations, but the plot and character motiivations-- there hardly were any. No real plot points, that's for sure. He sets off to find a way home from the beginning and that's all he does for the whole film. No character development-- yeah, so he has a wife and kid he wants to get to, should we like him just for that? and every single "attack" consisted of him looking around, a zombie or two shuffling toward him, and him either shooting or running. Over and over it happens.

and the ending.... *eyeroll*

or maybe some people liked it?

This was far better then the junk I have seen recently.

I think you may be onto something there. ;)

I loved the Godfather. If you also loved the Godfather, then your taste in film sucks too.

i was highly disappointed with this movie. it is so boring and just bad.

kinda of topic. are there any recent zombie movies without guns? i find the zombie shoot'em'ups quite lame and shouldn't even qualify as horror.

reply

Compared to some zombie movies out there this one was decent. 6 out of 10 from me.

I was offered half a two liter of Pepsi and an old copy of Juggs, so I can safely say this movie is pretty good.

This seems like an odd attitude - there are plenty of films I don't like, but I'm prepared to accept that other people might like them. It is certain possible to game the system but only in less well-travelled parts of IMDB (and elsewhere), there are hundreds of high votes for this film (including my own) and dozens of enthusiastic reviews, so I can't really see how makers of a low budget film would be able to buy all these* or muster enough friends and family to swing it.

If you look at the review aggregators then the professional critics seem to like the film, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 71% and Metacritic 59/100, suggesting the 5.9 score here isn't outrageous (unless you want to suggest the critics are also being paid off too):

Shrugging and accepting that people's tastes differ is much less dramatic and fun than suggesting there is a conspiracy to explain why people liked a film you didn't, but it is likely to be closer to reality.

* Although if anyone wants to retroactively buy my favourable vote, we'll call it a "reward", then they can send the envelope stuffed with used notes to the usual address

Mighty Emp, it's funny because almost every movie has a thread like this. Someone doesn't agree with the rating and even it it's a 4.6 someone will type "really, isn't that a little high?"

I hate the Star Wars prequels but do understand alot of people like them. It's funny because most threads on movies aren't about the movies, like this one - someone who doesn't like the movies can not believe others had diferrent opinions

reply

Indeed.

While I might expect a lack of empathy from some on a large Internet discussion forum this goes further than that and suggests problems with "theory of mind."

reply

Regulary even if i don't like a movie i can understand if other pepole liked it, but this one specific was so bad. i watched it without check the IMDB Rating first and after i watched it i was sure the rank going to be like 4.0-4.5.

so bad..

reply

i gave it a 6 i liked the setting and some of it was shot well and the zombies looked cool but it was lacking in the character development department and the main guy was a pretty bad actor the black guy was cool but but by the end of the movie the characters where nothing but a devise to let us see some cool scenery

the ending was the worst part of the film for me

reply

in my case, even if i enjoy a movie i can still understand how the movie i happened to enjoy is bad. i have enjoyed plenty of terrible movies. but really this movie is just bad. you may enjoy it, but it is still bad.
