Kinda liked it but there was stuff that didn't make sense...

There was stuff I liked about it. Colin Farrell is a hottie so that was great, but there were holes in the plot I thought that didn't make sense.

Like, for some reason, he has a job and lives with Lori Quaid for 6 weeks. So, her mission is to pose as his wife. Fine. But why try to kill him? Lots about that didn't make sense. I mean, if she wanted to kill him after the Rekall escape, why bother trying to hug him to death? She had a gun, why not just wait until his back is turned and shoot him?

Why try to kill him at all though? Later in the movie, I thought she said something about sending troops to Rekall to retrieve him from there, but, why? If she didn't know who he was, why worry if he went to Rekall at all? And then, why try to kill him if she didn't know who he was?

I mean she was trying to kill him before she found out who he was in that big rooftoop Bourne in Bladerunner chase scene. Then she finds out who he is, and decides to kill him despite getting strict orders not to kill him. Why leave her in charge of anything after that?

Then, later, when he is cornered in the lobby. Melina says they want to take him into custody because of what's in his head. But that makes no sense because he is supposedly carrying a kill switch code for the robots so the Government wouldn't need his information. They build the robots, so they'd have the kill code already. It's the resistance that needs the kill code.

Also, it is mentioned at the end by Cohaagen that he popped his memory cap at Rekall and this was not a good thing. But, he needed to do that I thought. If he didn't do that, he would still be going to work at the robot factory (where humans weld robot components. Robots can be police officers but not factory workers.)

It wasn't bad...some stuff didn't make sense. The chase scenes were good. I like the post apocolyptic cyberpunk type vibe. Homages to Bladerunner were a bit over the top. All that rain and those see thru raincoats.

Some distractions were:

1. Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel wore the exact same shade of pink lipstick for some strange reason.

2. Dubstep is a 'music of the future' apparently.

3. Obama on the money was a cheap shot and really pulls you out of the action into the present. Might as well have an intermissions and turn on all the lights.

Obama on the money was one of the rare touch of humor in the movie. I smiled when I saw it.

You know plot holes for this kind of film is routine. Even the revered original 1990 movie is full of them. It's a bit less problematic if you think it was all a dream, but that's an easy cop out. Plot holes are not such a big deal when you get entertained but when you're not you start to see each of them.

I agree that the hug of death was ridiculous. In the original, she hides in the dark and tries to shoot him, it's already much better but as you said why not wait the good moment to kill the unsuspecting husband?

Why would cops/military want to work for a person who's hell bent on replacing them with robots.

In the commentary of the DC, the director explains that Cohaagen needed informations from Hauser about the resistance he had infiltrated successfully before as part of his mission. But as Hauser had a change of heart and switched sides he wouldnt give him that infos.

So Cohaagen kept him alive but changed his face and identidy and had him set up in a common workers life with undercover agents at his side.
Ive no clue about the sense. No clue what Cohaagen expected to happen.

Imo a lot of stuff made no sense.
Too little info is given.
