Was his character a big letdown? I've never really watched the film. But I hear that people were really disappointed with the outcome.

Yes. Terrible joker. Very forgettable.

His Joker was over-the-top... even for the Joker. They didn't seem to know what they wanted to do with Joker so they just threw everything at the wall to see what stuck. What's worse is that he has no importance to the plot.

I thought his silver teeth and slicked back hair was ridiculous.

More unimpressed than let down, I think. Joker had a comparatively small supporting role, playing second fiddle to his girlfriend, so I dont think anyone got their hopes too high.

I mean, this movie offered so many bigger disappointments.

I didn't mind this movie or this version of The Joker.

However, I wouldn't be massively disappointed if Jared Leto didn't come back either.
