Why can't DC get superhero movies right?

Marvel is leaps and bounds ahead of the superhero competition (DC, individual superhero movies like Kick-Ass, etc) and yet DC can never get on an even footing with them, especially not with their last several movies. So what are DC doing wrong with their cinematic universe?

Teo big reasons:

1) they made the mistake of thinking the dark-and-grim atmosphere of the Nolan Batman films would work for other superheroes. It doesn't work for Superman and Wonder Woman, at least.

2) they made the mistake of hiring hack directors who can't put a coherent narrative together. I'm talking to you, Snyder!

At least they only fell for error #1 four or five games before realizing their mistake. "Aquaman" was total fun entertainment!

Still, that's a hell of a lot of expensive mistakes.

THE DARK TONE IS THE ONLY THING DC HAD GOING FOR IT...NOW THEYRE JUST GONNA MAKE MCU-LITE KNOCKOFFS.

The dark tone apparently did not work for DC.

THEY BOTCHED IT REAL BAD...DARK TONE FULL OF QUIPS AND BRIGHT COLORS AND BAD PLOTTING...THE DARK TONE COULD HAVE SET THEM APART AND GIVEN THEM THEIR OWN UNIQUE UNIVERSE...
