D.C. Stands For Disappointing Cinema

Where to start with something this bad? Honestly, what a crushing disappointment.

When developing a story about the bad guys being the "heroes" why do it this way? This clearly isn't a very logical story so the best approach is to make it interesting and somewhat believable. That was non- existent.

I honestly forgave the minimal character development because I thought the snippets of each person's background worked well enough. I also figured that the story would have told us more about each character's history, but that was also non-existent.

As the filth before my eyes progressed on screen, I thought of ways that could have made the characters a bit more identifiable and the story a bit more interesting.

First and foremost, remove the cut and dry approach and give the characters some life. Rather than dedicating two minutes or so to each character, show us how they were operating in their day to day affairs. Don't make some quick, cut montage that shows them captured and in prison. No one can identify with that and the audience has zero opportunities to attach themselves to anything and invest themselves in the story. Second, give the film a story. It's almost like Viola Davis' character walks into the office and says, "Ah suh dude, we're going to start putting the bad guys in charge of our government." Wait, what?! PRESENT THE CONCEPT TO THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT. HAVE IT TURNED DOWN FOR A LOT OF PLAUSIBLE REASONS. DO SOMETHING TO THE STORY TO MAKE THEM THE LAST AVAILABLE OPTION. PUT THEM TO THE TEST.

The film is literally the entire trailer. There is no purpose to it.

The Joker is the most underdeveloped character of this film. Deadshot (I hate Will Smith but he steals the show) and Harley Quinn are the two highlights. Couldn't they have made Killer Croc mute so that every time he opened his mouth sewer trash wouldn't come spewing out?

Why did they add that Native American criminal featured in the promotional material for a whopping one minute of screen time before killing him off?

Why did Joel Kinnaman use the corniest southern accent possible?

AND THOSE VILLAINS?

I'm pretty sure ELECTRO FROM THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (LOL) WAS BETTER THAN THESE VILLAINS. I LITERALLY burst out laughing when they showed doing some weird little voodoo dance to try to manipulate each character. SERIOUSLY WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THE EDITING? THE CGI WAS SO BAD WITH THE VILLAIN.

Instead of idiot fanboys petitioning for Rotten Tomatoes to be shut down, these people should be petitioning for David Ayer (who has made nothing worth mentioning) to never make a film again.

The DCEU is in real trouble.

I said this in another thread. They should have watched the Firty Dozen and take notes how to make a bunch of murderers, thieves, and psychos likable and develope a story where you put them in asituation where there is a sense of danger and you'd want to root for them to succeed.

Dirty dozen* hah derp

You're the best around... nothing's gonna keep you down.

Get up ya bum!!!

Mickey loves you.

Unfortunately DC doesn't make the movies,WB does and they shown time and time again they haven't got a clue about dc's comicbook characters. It's a dysfunctional family which is a shame for fans.

reply

I thought DC was Disallowed in China

reply

My eyes were made to erase all that is ugly.

reply

DC fans are also against free speech it would appear.

They can try to shut up real word of mouth but I'm betting they fail.

reply

When will this ever change if ever? Seriously, we all agree that the three DCU movies have been awful. What can they honestly so to turn it around from here?

reply

What on the horizon gives anyone any hope? Wonder Woman will be laughed out of theaters and JL is being controlled by Zack Snyder.

There is NO hope.

reply

The Flash will be compared to the TV show and confuse everyone. A lot will think it's from that show and ask why they should pay for something they can see for free,

Glad to see that people aren't sitting back and letting the WB get away with this crap. The more we point out flaws and our discontent the more changes we are likely to see from this point forward.

reply

All I know is nine out of ten movie fans that I've talked to hated where the DCEU has been and where it is going. How can they keep conning people in to paying to see this stuff no matter how cool the characters can and should be?

reply

Just like hanging around in the first half only to get blown out in the second.

reply

.'I thought DC was Disallowed in China"

Yeah, and three of their films STILL made 2 billion.

Nice try though.

reply

Maybe...

Disastrous Clunkers?

reply

Clunkers make 2 billion plus at the box office?

Good to know.

reply

*YES

* = see Transformers

reply

Is that the best you can do?

Seriously.

Word of mouth was better than Transformers also.

reply

You know that this is true.

reply

Also, a lot of people seem to really like The Flash television series, and there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth among the fangirls and fanboys of the series when they realize the movie has ZERO to do with any of the characters they love. And the TV series fans (some of them, anyway) will stamp their tiny fan-feet and go sulk in a corner rather than watch WB's film division screw up their favoritest show ever.

reply

rather than watch WB's film division screw up their favoritest show ever.

You have to admit though, the WB's film division can screw up anything at any time. They are the definition of incompetent.

reply

If trash is cultivated it will become stronger and that's all we'll get from the WB. Speak up NOW.

reply

Well, to be fair I would say WW has a 40-50% chance of being okay. But yeah, JL has virtually 0% because Snyder is directing. But then again, he wrote WW... yeah, they're doomed.

yeah, they're doomed.

That's it in a nutshell. Fans go back and forth like that trying to find hope but there really is none where the WB is concerned. That studio has a way of confounding even good talent. Throw a hack like Snyder in to the mix and what you see is the crap we got.

What film was most disappointing?

Suicide Squad - I was fore-warned, but it was still a mess.
Sausage Party - zero interest in seeing this
Mechanic: Resurrection - nope
Jason Bourne - what, ANOTHER one?
Star Trek Beyond - I actually liked this, I thought it felt more like the original series than the previous entry.
Ghostbusters (2016) - a lot better than I expected from the trailers.
Ice Age: Collision Course - haven't seen it
The Legend of Tarzan - Again, I actually enjoyed this, much more so than SS.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows - zero interest in seeing this
Independence Day: Resurgence - Oh my god, nope. Roland Emmerich has a lot of nerve badmouthing superhero films...
The Lobster - Didn't see it. It sounded bizarre.
Alice Through the Looking Glass - eh, it was OK
The Purge: Election Year - The Purge films are not my cuppa, generally. This one looked like it had more plot than most.
Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising - oh HELL no
Free State of Jones - didn't see it
Warcraft - Another one I actually liked. I wanted to know what happened next, which in my opinion is the definition of a story that worked.

So, of the films in this list I've seen, I'd say I was most disappointed by Alice, followed closely by Suicide Squad.

reply

Honestly, Free State of Jones of more racial baiting that we just didn't need right now.

reply

Now apparently The Batman script is a mess. Flash can't beg a director to stay on board. Wonder Woman is STILL a mess.

Oh boy.

reply

Star Trek Beyond was disappointing because of what they marketed. The movie itself was MEH.

reply

BvS was the biggest flaming turd this year.

reply

Ghostbusters making as much money as it did, proves that we have become an idiot society.

reply

Again, we can not change the fact that people act in a certain way. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is to keep expressing our displeasure and hope the WB changes their ways and cares enough to stop making crap films. They have to listen sooner or later.

reply

All they want is the money. They don't give a fVck about the fans.
