Ending (spoilers)

(Spoilers)

Some reviews describe the ending as overly happy and neat, but that wasn't what I was left with. Ulrik lost his job (finding another hardly seems straightforward), and Merete seemed to have ditched him since Karen Margrethe told her about their goings on. I suppose his daughter in law had come around, and at least he was free of his crime boss. But it hardly seemed "all wrapped up" to me. What do others think about the threads at the end?--loose or sweetly wrapped up?

sweetly wrapped up. he says spring is coming and it seems like he's content.

Within the world that the movie presents, that was an upbeat ending. I really loved this movie and its characters.

I found it odd that he didn't bother talking to Merete. I wonder if he will now that he feels more comfortable and content. And the killing of the mob boss felt like he was moving backwards instead of forwards. The guy was a bit of a jerk but hardly a threat. Look at all the stuff he let Rolf get away with.
