Does anyone know,how it ends for the dog?Does he survive or die at the end?I hope,it'll have a happy ending!

And is the role of Michael Paré big?

Don't worry, the dog recovers and is even awarded a golden key by the mayor of the city. The movie has a very happy ending!

Michael Pare plays the father of the main character and is quite convincing in his performance, but he appears in relatively few scenes, so I would say that his role is peripheral.
