Who knew Taraji could sing?
I was pleasantly surprised. She was great in this movie.

She did sing in Hustle and Flow but that wasn't her singing in this movie. I knew from the time she opened her mouth that wasn't here. Just to be sure, I read the credits and it said the song was performed by Cheryl 'Pepsii' Riley. Riley was in a couple of Tyler Perry's plays (recently, as well as having a singing career).

shareSorry, but you are incorrect. That was Taraji singing for that definitely was not Ms. Riley's voice in the movie. Her (C.Riley) has a very distinctive voice. The credits are mainly for the soundtrack, if there is one.
In addition, Taraji says it herself in interviews.

shareImgreat is right! I watched the credits to for same reason. that was C-Pepsi Riley!!! The music was on Tyler Perry label--(he got his $ game tight)& he let REAL musicians and writers put it together. The music was great! And Taraji didn't sing that song. Sorry.
shareWell, considering the way she sang at the 78th Academy Awards, I thought she sang the song in this film. I think she has the chops to do it.

PEOPLE, the point is NOT whether or NOT she can sing! No one said she COULDN'T sing! The QUESTION IS, did she sing THAT song?! And the ANSWER IS INDISPUTABLY-- NO!

I didn't read the credits so I also thought Taraji sang "Rock Steady". That was one of the best lip sync's I've ever seen. From Hustle & Flow I knew she could sing so I took it for granted. Anyway it was a great performance and I loved the afro. Taraji is one of my favorite actors... her.
