Pixalations during the more graphic scenes

I know I am asking a question about a fairly old film, but I just watched it on Amazon, there were so many pixalations, I felt like I was watching an old episode the Jerry Springer Show. Can anyone tell me, is this part of the original release, or did I watch a censored version on a service that I pay for?

I realize you asked this a year ago, but maybe someone else has the same question.

I rented this on disk from Netflix maybe 3 or 4 years ago. There was zero pixelation. You could see everything in all its glory.  
