Rank the *new* DC Animated films

Not counting any of the Timmverse DTV's like Mask of the Phantasm or Return of the Joker.

1) Wonder Woman
2) Batman: Gotham Knight
3) Green Lantern: First Flight
4) Justice League: New Frontier
5) Superman: Doomsday
6) Brainiac Attacks

Apparently, also discounting The Batman vs. Dracula (probably just as well).

I'll decline. My preferences for a couple of these tend to flip-flop with my mood. I'll definitely rank Superman: Brainiac Attacks! at the very bottom, though.

SUPERMAN: Do us both a favor and buy one.

Brainiac Attacks was part of the Timmverse, man.
Actually, it was not, "starwolf" (although it did borrow the Timmverse character designs). The producers and writer of Superman: Brainiac Attacks! have confirmed that it has no part in the continuity of the DCAU.
Before I address the movie itself, I want to quickly touch upon “wacky Lex.” He’s modeled after the Richard Donner version of Lex Luthor, from the Superman live-action features. Writer Duane Capizzi even says so. He says that while the movie has the look of the Bruce Timm animated series, it’s a stand alone movie that can be considered out of continuity, and draws influences from many different aspects of the Superman lore. Does that excuse the final product? No. But for those hardcore Timm-fans looking for an excuse to ignore this movie, there it is.

You are correct, though, in pointing out that it is also not part of Warner Premiere's "DC Universe Animated Original Movie" series.

1) Wonder Woman - Great animation and cinematography, superb voice work and a good script makes this the best of the lot so far.

2) Superman: Doomsday - Loved the story and the characterizations that radically departed from the Superman animated series. Also really dug Adam Baldwin as Superman and Anne Heche as Lois. Animation and cinematography are check marks against this one however.

3) Batman v. Dracula - Though it is The Batman series animation, characterizations and cast, it is not an extended episode. Dark and intense with writing almost on par with best of Batman:The Animated Series. Official DCAU or not (it's not Bruce Timm),it is, nonetheless, one of the best Batman film adaptations so far.

4) Green Lantern: First Flight - Great animation and a fully fleshed out Sinestro make this well worth watching. Overall story is average and the voice acting for Hal Jordan is not very good though.

5) Gotham Knight - Didn't really care for the vignette approach, but I loved the first segment with the conflicting 1st hand accounts of the Batman. Full disclosure: I'm not really a fan of 100% Nipon anime so my opinion is colored. Kevin Conroy's return does bring a lot to the movie.

6) Justice League: New Frontier - Never liked the story (comic or film)-the justice league formed to deal with a 1950's B horror movie monster is anti-climatic to say the least. Neal Patrick Harris and Jeremy Sisto did great work as Flash and Batman, but the rest of cast was sub-par with Lucy Lawless turning Wonder Woman into Wooden Woman. The animation was very good however.

Green Lantern- Did a great job in refreshing the origin and had great action

New Frontier-Amazing story and the animation was perfect, though after reading the GN I gotta say it could have been better

Wonder woman- Great acting and story was solid

Superman Doomsday- Pretty much just bad all around

Batman Gotham knight- Painful, I really hated it which sucks cause batman is my favorite

It only ends once, everything before that is just progress

Wonder Women, Green Lantern, JL: New Frontier and Batman/Superman were all very good I think.

1. Green Lantern: First Flight
The lack of character development didn't bother me. The preview said "From Hero to Intergalatic Legend." So after the opening credits, he already established himself as Hero on Earth, this was his first mission in Space. Great voice work, great action, and FINALLY, the right Green Lantern in Animation.

2. Justice League: The New Frontier
I like the idea of focusing on lesser known heroes like GL, Flash and Martian Manhunter. And even though the 3rd act wasn't as good as the first 2 (thought the whole Island thing was a little lackluster after all the build up), it was still interesting. Having the set-up in the 1950s (or was it 60s?) was a cool idea.

3. Superman: Doomsday
This is only in my Top 3 because I've only seen these 3, I have yet to see the other ones (listed below). I read the Doomsday story in the comics and this does it no justice. The action was cool, but the movie lacked everything else great about the Doomsday storyline, such as Doomsday beating the tar out of the Justice League, the lack of Superman REALLY getting beat up like in the comics (they should have had his suit ripped up, and a little more blood), and the lack of the 4 wanna-be Supermen was also disappointing.

I still haven't seen Superman/Batman:Public Enemies, Wonder Woman or Batman: Gotham Night (yet)

i know this is a thread for "newer" DC movies, but how would you rank the older movies in with the newer ones?

i.e. Mask of the Phantasm, World's Finest, Return of the Joker, Mystery of the Batwoman, etc.

i would have to say:

1) Return of the Joker
2) Mask of the Phantasm
3) Green Lantern: First Flight
4) Wonder Woman
5) Justice League: New Frontier

Honorable Mentions: World's Finest, Batman vs. Dracula

also, i have to say that the Crisis on Two Earth's movie does have tremendous potential and will probably make my list.

i know im forgetting some movies ...

I have yet to see Justice League: The New Frontier and Superman/Batman: Public Enemies.
If you don't mind the early Silver-Age feel of Alex Toth's Hanna-Barbera work combined with a more modern approach to the social/political feel of the times, you might like Justice League: The New Frontier. Just don't expect it to conform slavishly to the original book. Superman/Batman: Public Enemies fixes some of the weaknesses of the original story, but adds new ones. It also suffers a bit from having to be condensed.

1. Wonder Woman (2009)
2. Green Lantern: First Flight (2009)
3. Superman/Doomsday (2007)
4. Batman: Gotham Knight (2008)

Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman are my favorite DC heroes, in that order, so my number 1 is no surprise. I want to buy more movies like this.

In Green Lantern: First Flight (2009) I didn't find Hal Jordan interesting. A different voice might have helped. But the overall story was good, and Sinestro was great. Plus things looked good. And I liked how the Guardians came across. Or the ones that spoke. Pretty solid entertainment value. I might go for more movies like this if the story-telling stays good.

I expected to like the Superman movie next best, but I didn't. I don't think it looked good enough. I saw it just after seeing the Marvel animated movie Hulk Vs. (2009), and the DC fighting suffered by comparison.

Batman: Gotham Knight (2008) had loads of style but weak stories. Also it suffers horribly by comparison with Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993), and it isn't appropriate to fit between Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008). Christian Bale should have done the voice, to maintain consistency. He's fine with voice work, as Howl's Moving Castle (2004) shows.

Superman and Batman: Apocolypse

Greenlantern: First Flight

Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths

I have only seen the trailer for GLFF and sci-fi is my genre of interest but I had Apololypse first because I was totally impressed by the high level detail and animation skills.

Baman: Under The Red Hood definitely gets included (exceptional artwork and animation) but for the agonizingly patronizing ending that, imho, damns its.

I'll do my top 3, for no other reason than it's late and I'm tired.

1. Batman: Under the Red Hood- great vocal talent (Bruce Greenwood can be Batman anytime he wants in my book), and they took a silly concept from the comics, put a new spin on it and actually made it work. Black Mask was a bit of a joke, but still, an all around solid film.

2. Justice League: The New Frontier- I watched it again recently and it doesn't hold up as well, but it's still a fun, whimsical ride. It's a bit goofy, but hey, so was the Golden Age of comic books.

3. Wonder Woman- bar none, the best representation of Wonder Woman in a solo adventure that I've ever seen. The voice acting was surprisingly effective (I like Keri Russell, but I wasn't really sold on her voicing such a powerful heroine until I actually saw the movie), and the action scenes were incredibly well done.

About the only movie I didn't really enjoy was Superman: Doomsday, which took a decent story and made changes that just made it ridiculous. I even enjoyed most of Batman: Gotham Knight, especially the second time around, and the two Superman/Batman entries, especially Public Enemies (if only so I could get the two "Superman" episodes included with the 2-disc set). Green Lantern: First Flight was almost too short and a bit over the top in the end, but it was still a great movie on its own, and Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths is worth it just for Batman's "staring into the abyss" line.

I'm really looking forward Batman: Year One, which, last time I checked, is slated to come out a few days after I get married, so that's exciting.
