One weakness: stupid constructs

In one respect, I think the early 2000s Justice League got the GL concept right -- fewer constructs, more use of the ring as a laser/energy weapon. Most constructs look utterly silly. I can stand things like ring-generated pincers to pick up objects -- maybe, although I'd prefer the green energy to be a force field for those purposes -- but to have mattresses or springs built out of light is just silly.

The green energy should be a ray with infinitely variable properties -- narrow or wide, force or cutting, attraction or repulsion, light, etc. No need for ridiculous onstructs

Yeah but when in a tight spot usually you have to think quick and go with your first thought. Sometimes its a high powered precise laser, and sometimes its a spring.

This was brought up in the Justice League animated series. John Stewart was being chastised by the person who trained him in the use of the ring. He was using the ring to simply and was urged to be more creative.

The ring has a lot of power and is controlled by the will of the user. If you become to lazy in it's use you can lose the ability to tap into the real power of the ring when needed. You need to constantly exercise your mind and imagination.

The OP clearly does not understand what GL is about. I hated the fact that Stewart rarely made creative constructs.

The constructs are big part of the fun of GL.

14-year old post but I'm gonna reply anyway...

The events of the film happen in a single day, so Hal has literally only just figured things out. Given he's had no formal training whatsoever, and he's self-taught, it makes perfect sense that he would use his ring differently.
