Nice that the genre gets some coverage at least...

I see a lot of divided opinions on this show (particularly with Trunk), but I for one am glad to see any show that dedicates itself to any portion of the genre. For decades, metal fans have had nothing like this to watch. I mean, we all thought it was amazing when MTV began the 'Headbangers Ball'...

It would certainly be nice to see more guests from punk bands of the late 70's/early 80's (Clash, DK, DRI, The Damned, The Exploited, Black Flag, etc.) and some more representation from newer metal. But we really can't complain; and those that do are starting to sound like spoiled elitists...

Seems like we're seeing more secondary guests from the newer bands in the later seasons, but I'm guessing they'll never do an entire show about Slipknot (Corey Taylor was a secondary guest on one of the episodes).

Personally, I'd like to see Max from Sepultura/Soulfly on there. Either of those bands walk all over Slipknot... Perhaps they can figure out a way to dedicate a certain amount of time per season to newer stuff.

Either way, it's still nice to watch an hour-long show about bands/bandmembers that I came up listening to and it's done in a respectful way - not as a nostalgia piece. Trunk & company always do their best to plug the latest projects of near-forgotten members of bands from way back; which I think is really cool.

Perhaps they should've considered calling it "That Rock Show" *shrug*

Eddie would NEVER allow bands like Sepultura or Soulfly on there. He would not know what to ask them (he's not a fan of metal that is that heavy) and he's made that clear, as well as not being into anything after the the 1980's (when GLAM died).

I agree with the headline of this post. This is about as good as it gets. Eddie and crew, I think, do a fine job paying tribute to the heros of hard rock and metal.
I also want to stick up a bit for some of what they do that catches flack from lots of people. They state repeatedly that the show is about "All Things hard rock and heavy metal!" And that means they aren't just going to cater to the heavier, heavier side of it. They cover the entire genre, leaning more towards older acts (it DOES appear on VHI CLASSIC, after all). And though I'm not always a fan of some of the guests they have one, somebody is. You may hate glam metal and all the commercial metal acts of the 80s (I kind of do), but it's a part of the music's history, and rightfully should be covered. I also give credit to the guys for actually going on camera and addressing these very issues and saying how they feel about the flack they've got. They know what they are and they don't pretend.
And I specifically want to address what was said about Eddie. First, I don't believe he is the sole person in charge of who comes on the show. Sure, he has influence through all of his connections, but it's ultimately the network and producers who decide, not to mention the bands themselves. There are many bands I'm sure they would love to have that just won't do the show (they've pointed out Ozzy and KISS several times). And as for Eddie not liking heavier metal, I wouldn't be so sure. The guy has producer credits for such bands as Slayer, Overkill and Manowar. I guarentee if the opportunity comes to have guys from Sepultura on, they'll take it in a heartbeat. So until Elton John ends up being a guest, make mine "Metal!"

Well said. To add to a few of your points, they have stated that there are a lot of newer bands they would love to have on the show, but because the show is filmed over 1 week (2 per day back to back) in the summer, most of these newer bands are touring and can't make it on the show if they wanted too. Also, it depends on what people consider heavy, whether it's the music or vocals. Eddie does love bands with a heavier sound, but he has stated he doesn't like death metal because of the vocals. They've also stated the bands they choose has to be approved by the network and they stated that there is no way a band like Cannibal Corpse would ever be on the show. If Eddie, Don, and Jim did have complete control over who is on the show death metal bands would eventually be on there, because even though Eddie doesn't like them, both Don and Jim do. Hell, Don is in a acoustic death metal band. Don't forget that they did talk to Johan Hegg through Metal Modem this season too.
Like Caabrae said it's on VH1 Classic so they are gonna focus on classic bands. With all that said. I think they do an awesome job with the options they have.

Then why was Slayer on? Aren't they that heavy?

Trunk won't allow anything heavier than Slayer on the show. That's for sure.

They've had several guests who represent the heavier side of metal on the show, including Dave Lombardo from Slayer; Max Cavalera, the former singer of Sepultura; Corey from Slipknot; Phil Anselmo, the former singer of Pantera; that guy from Amon Amarth; Peter Steele of Type O Negative; King Diamond; not to mention Bobby Blitz from Overkill several times; then there's members of Anthrax, Metallica and Megadeth. None of these are exactly light metal.

The only reason they haven't had Cannibal Crap on is because (1) they're not that popular and (2) their lyrics -- term used loosely -- are so laughably juvenile it'd mar the reputation of the show.

For someone who doesn't like the show, you seem to hang around this DEAD message board and wait for an update from someone every few months, just so that you can post something. If you don't like the show, why do you hang out here, seeing it's not been on the air for almost 1 full year?
