it's (somewhat) odd that all of the main character's former associates were all Caucasian (and Mimi was, apparently, of Scottish origin?); during the time-frame that these people reportedly were operating, the civil rights movement was still top of mind for much of the country, and there were african-americans and other minorities involved at the forefront, as well as whites.

During the 1960s timeframe, whites and blacks pretty much had their own movements. Blacks were about as rare in the Weather Underground as whites were in the Black Panthers. While distrust of, and hatred for the government was widespread, there was never a real interracial coalition of such characters. There was too much disagreement over goals, methods, etc.
