So this show fails and Jay gets promoted?!?

Seriously? Conan and the local news tanked because Leno brought down the ratings, and because Conan's younger audience could watch the show anytime. Younger viewers (Conan's base) are more likely to have the technology to watch online or on mobile devices. NBC RAN ADS asking people to watch online and then sat around and scratched their heads about why no one was watching at 11:30.

Is there anything dumber than and NBC exec?

Best part is that Leno's audience switched to Letterman and most of them are going to stay there, because honestly, even Leno's fans know which one is funnier.

Look moron, Conan had his OWN SHOW for 16 years and he STILL couldn't build a following! Leno NEVER had his own show before Tonight and he still made it.

Conan lost MILLIONS of viewers once he took over from Jay so it's incredibly obvious that Leno SHOULD'VE NEVER LEFT TONIGHT!!

Dennis Miller and Dana Carvey both said Leno never should've left Tonight when you've been numbe 1 in the ratings for 15 years!!

Conan sucks and is going to fade into obscurity since Fox won't hire a loser who'll end up in 4th place behing Leno, Letterman, AND Nightline!!

Exactly! No one, Not one news report even mentions that as a big factor in the ratings problem Conan faced. Conan lost the ratings game to Letterman because Jay leno would never leave like Carson did. Ofcourse Letterman will do better. Carson didn't even stay in the media spot light after he retired. How convinient for Leno!

When Leno announced he was leaving in 2004, I did feel bad for him. In the final show last year, when he announced that he would be back at 10, I smelled trouble.

I thought Jay's show at 10 got better ratings than he got at 11:30. The problem is that no one wants to watch a late night comedy show at 10. He simply got worse ratings than the primetime shows they used to run at 10. You can't blame Jay for getting a better rating than he did before. Blame the NBC executives who thought it was a good idea. And ask why they thought Conan could beat Letterman if he couldn't even beat Ferguson consistently.

He didn't have a following? Did NBC just let him keep his show for 16 years, even though nobody was watching him? He didn't have Leno's audience, but that's because they were all old nursing home residents who simply followed Jay to 10:00PM (where JAY failed).

Leno NEVER had his own show before Tonight and he still made it.

So guest hosting the Tonight Show for years doesn't count? And he "made it" because NBC gave him nearly 3 years to become #1 in the ratings. How long did they give Conan?

Oh, and you DO realize that while Leno was failing badly during the first year of the Tonight Show, NBC offered the show to David Letterman, and he refused. He could have taken Leno out right there and then and taken his place as the RIGHTFUL host of the Tonight Show, but he didn't. He knew NBC was a shoddy network and was smart to stay at CBS.

Leno divided the audience by not retiring when he said he would. If he would have retired, like Johnny Carson retired years earlier, Conan would have retained a good amount of the Tonight Show audience, in addition to bringing over his fans from Late Night. He would have done just fine. Leno f|ucked this up, not Conan.

You're a worthless lapdog of a Leno fan. You are absolutely retarded if you actually think Conan is not going to end up on another network after all of the support he has been given. He will have his show, and hopefully the bulk of Leno's fan base will die off soon enough from old age. If America wasn't filled with dumbass middle Americans, Leno would fail at the Tonight Show the way he failed at 10:00PM. You're lucky to be part of such a brain dead demographic.
