I interpreted the ending much different........(Spo ilers)...

Carol Haplin is Alice! That would explain the one thing I've not seen answered after watching the final two episodes and reading most of the threads on this board. What was Carol Haplin really doing at the end of episode 7 when she was in that dentist chair or salon chair and said something to the effect that she wanted to change her appearance? Immediately when they showed "Alice" in the bar I assumed oh she changed her appearance to look older (and if she was the magic man/woman then I guess she could do that).

Can anyone absolutely assure me that I'm wrong about this? Because if I'm right to me that would make more sense than having the actual magic man be someone who wasn't even in the show until the final episode.

No Carol Halpin was seen at the end to be behaving like her daighter who was taken by MM and had her son reading a children's book to her. Alice was Alice at the end. It wasn't supposed to be the series finale, but the season finale; a foundation for future televisual bliss that was cut short by the scissors of greed and corporate foolishness.
Using Tommy's mother would create much more drama than some woman we barely cared for. While not physically present, she was always a force that drove the father and son, now it turns out that she's what Tommy was fighting against, not for. Drama and half right there.

Oh wow so the appearance change she wanted was to become her daughter more or less?! I totally missed that. I thought the daughter had suddenly reappeared and that was one of the reasons Andrew decided not to leave town.

Yeah i think it was when the grandmother made him watch the blue door that he finally understood the whole shebang and stayed. Plus your mom turning all sorts of crazy has gotta put a damper on the romanti getaway plans!
