Hands registered as lethal weapons?

The FBI guy said Lights's hands were registered. I believe that registering hands if you are a fighter is a myth. You could be charged with a greater intent to cause harm, but it's not a true law.

On a side note, if in the Lights Out universe this exists, wouldn't the guy Lights beat up for money in the premiere be more likely to file charges, or was is ego too big?

If you are a boxer/fighter or something with a well-known fighting background with experience and you beat on someone, you can be charged with attempted murder because of how experienced in fighting you are. I really don't know if that is true though. I just watched the first Undisputed movie and Wesley Snipes's character was convicted like that.

Yeah, basically, it would be hard to plead it down to a lesser crime because you know that you have the strength and power to really f someone up, so if they go to the hospital or die, you're likely going to get the worst case crime. Assault/Bat 1, Manslaughter 1, etc.

Similar issue in Con Air. Nic Cage had the specialized training where he was a lethal weapon and all that, and used it on some drunken rednecks who insulted his woman, and later him. A lethal weapon is, by definition, a tool.

But like you said, the champ hits someone for an insult, yeah, good luck in court. Hits someone for putting a knife to his girl, justifiable.

My father was a heavyweight boxer 60 years ago then he retired to be a farmer. Six years later a guy tried to rob my dad when he was in town and pop beat the crap out of him. Two days later the police showed up to arrest my dad because since dad had been a pro boxer it WAS far more serious even though the other guy, same size as my dad, had a gun during the holdup. The robber spent a week in the hospital and my dad almost did jail time but there was a witness who helped get him exonerated. I think the police were upset that the gun had 'disappeared'. :-) I still have it.

it wasnt as simple as he got hit for an insult. The idiot actually challenged Leary, initially.
Cant claim he didnt know who he was fighting, either. The moron apparently makes a past-time of picking fights with fmr professionals, when he gets a couple of beers in.
Not even any of his 'friends' tried to call time-out as Leary beat the jerk down.

I wonder how many if any actually expected the result to be any different.
