Original Ending?

In the trivia section of this movie, it mentions the following:

"The original ending was much bleaker than the one that ended up in the final film."

Does anyone have any idea of what the original ending consists of? I'm guessing that if someone has the DVD with extras they may know what it consists of?

I mean the ending that I saw which consists of both kidnappers killing each other and Alice finding Danny dead in the car after escaping the factory is sort of bleak as it is?!

I found the production notes for the movie online. It just says when the writer was shopping it around, people became more interested in the project when he decided to change the ending. No reason is given as to why that is, or what the ending was.

In any case, it seems they changed it before production started, so I don't think an alternate ending was ever filmed.

I thought the ending of the movie was kind of fun; her real "Disappearance" occurring at the end when she drives off with the cash. The kidnappers got theirs, but screw them. Bleaker sounds like she got dead instead of rich, but that's just a guess

Right, I see. Well it would make sense if it wasn't actually filmed because I can't find it anywhere. All that's listed on the DVD features is:

Special Features:

Audio commentary with Director Making of featurette Extended scene with commentary Storyboard Theatrical Trailers

To this day it remains perhaps the bleakest movie I've ever seen.

Seen a lot bleaker than this.

This is party time compared to films like Funny Games and The Visitors.šŸ

But this movie leaves mental scars in my mind that I doubt would be easily erased... my goodness does this movie *beep* you up mentally.

Seriously no. I thought the film was well-acted, well-directed and I enjoyed the twists and turns, right from the beginning where one word is spoken in the first 10 minutes. But ultimately we see that, yet again, crime doesn't pay.šŸ

Didn't you find the scene when she needed to urinate disturbing?

No more so than other aspects of her kidnapping. What I found rather interesting is that Gemma Arterton immersed herself in the role to the extent she refused body doubles and chose to urinate into the bucket, even though I don't recall you "seeing anything" (not that I felt that was important).šŸ

I immediately thought of a better/enhanced ending.

When the aerial shot starts and the lines of roads paint over, in the end of that shot, before fade to black, for few seconds show a red dot moving on one of the roads and the audience hears a slow beeping. All of the 3 got shafted. :)

reply

...what does that even mean?

reply

Doh. Everything needs to be explained to death? There's a tracking beacon in the money bag and the woman doesn't know it. She gets caught with the money.

reply

well yeah, when your explanation makes no sense, clearing it up might help people understand what you meant. doesn't need to be explained to death, but just to an extent where the reader actually knows what you're trying to say.

reply

You're the first one to need an explanation to what a moving dot on a map and beeping sound actually means.

reply

It could mean lots of things, like a bomb. If it's just a tracker, they could find her and she could explain she managed to escape after the kidnappers killed each other. Sure, she wouldn't get away with the money, but hardly screwed

reply

I disagree with all. I'm going to first comment on the most glaring mistake; a beeping sound could be very well associated with a bomb, but I've never ever seen that a moving dot on a map screen with beeping sound would be associated (primarily) with a bomb, never. And I've seen thousands and thousands of movies. 2nd, I hardly believe that she was going to return the money, so when they find her, what would exonerate her? She ran away with the money and other 2 persons are dead. Doesn't look so good for the damsel, eh?

reply

Pretty sure the bleaker ending would be her been left to die in that room, not managing to grab the keys. That's what I thought was going to happen and it made me feel sick.

Wishful fanboy thinking most likely. You do know that anyone can edit the trivia section, or any section on imdb without backing up any of the information, right?
