Who...

Who ever handles scheduling for CBS should be fired. Why is it OK to show new episodes three weeks then not for a week or two, hitting tired of it. With having to watch commercials it may be better to just not watch and buy the DVD set in a few months. What is on next Sunday instead of a new NCIS LA? NCIS & NCIS NO reruns, really screwed up.

Next Sunday is the Super Bowl... I wouldn't waste a new episode opposite the last NFL game of the season...

Otherwise, they do 24 Episodes a year...they schedule new episodes during ratings sweeps... and avoid holidays...

Yes, the gods demand that all bow down to the natural order of the universe and worship the almighty football!

Isn't the Super Bowl on CBS? And the Grammys the next Sunday?

What Kch said. Networks always have new shows during sweeps months-- November, February, and April. In other months new episodes aren't guaranteed. During the holidays (2nd half of December through first week of January, or Thanksgiving week, Easter weekend) they usually have reruns, if the show is aired at all. And when something "big" is on another network, like the Super Bowl, Academy Awards, etc., that's another time you probably won't see a new episode.

After the NCIS rerun during the Super Bowl Sunday, the next Sunday is the Grammys on CBS, so I guess it'll be THREE WEEKS before we find another episode.

It's the same procedure on every major network. A TV-season is usually 22-24 episodes airing from September to May (roughly 36 weeks), so basic math concludes that 12-14 weeks will consist of either reruns or something else (usually something involving sports or politics).

Personally I'm quite okay with that, since if they aired 22-24 episodes in 22-24 weeks, we would have a 7 month hiatus between seasons instead of 4.

I'm guessing many people go the route of amazon and binge watch a season. I like NCIS LA too much to wait so often watch the episode when it's on. The latest arc taught me a lesson. My tv is going off for various reasons and will binge the series I like at the end of the tv season. That cannot be good for advertisers who may get in line to object to the way things are scheduled. While networks may not disappear altogether, their power is declining. With every new cable project and the horrendous scheduling done by the networks, the pattern of tv watching has and will change dramatically.
