I liked it

Having worked in a video store for a couple of years, waiting thousands of movies and almost vomiting at every Australian movie I try watch these days... I just have to say I really enjoyed it.

No, it wasn't perfect, no it wasn't ground-breakingly original, but it was a DECENT movie! It didn't throw in all the clichés that Australian movies do too often, it was just... a movie.

Good on yah guys! I hope the Aussie public return the favour via the box office, although, knowing Australia's movie-going culture, it might take a while for the ball get to rolling.

My husband and I saw the film this morning and loved it too!

It's funny and very Aussie, as in we are laughing at ourselves and our sometimes incongruous ways of doing, or not doing, things.

Well it's good to hear that you enjoyed it, I really want our film industry to make good films, they don't have to be blockbusters or anything, just good entertainment at least.

And I'm glad it wasn't trying to be over-Australian, and just tried to be entertaining on its own.

I'm going to wait and see more of how this movie's received before I pay money to see it in cinemas, but I'm glad that someone likes it.

Yeah it was a bit embarrassing at times, but it was a funny movie with sweet moments (Charlie) and still talking about it now. Came away with a smile.

Not going to be a big movie and witht he heavy promotion it is going to be a fizzer, but it really deserves more of a showing.

Yeah good to hear others enjoyed it.

As someone who is quite critical of the Aussie film industry, having watched this movie and with Tomorrow When the War Began just around the corner, I'm deciding against looking to LA for film work and staying right here.

We need more movies like this which have our aussie humour in it, but not in our faces :)

Check it out when it's on DVD/Bluray, Jay. I think you'll be surprised at how different it is to your typical (depressing) Aussie movie.

I have keen interest (and a collection) in good Aussie movies and thought this wasn't too bad. I particularly liked the portrayal of Melbourne in Autumn!

I'm sick of seeing Australian movies (not to mention American ones) that play up the stereotypes of Australia being a dry, dusty, hot and remote country. It's good to see the REAL Australia showcased and the colourful, temperate and culturally vibrant city of Melbourne being the centrepiece.

Why cast Yvonne as English. It totally ruined it for me. She has an Aussie accent that most people would die for. The English accent killed her character. Didnt we learn from Nicole Kidmans disaster as an Englishwomen in "Australia".

You have to feel for Australian film makers, because we avoid local movies like the plague. This was way short of break even at the box office. And the overseas market did not want anything to do with it.

Look at Cate Blanchett in Little Fish. Made in Australia when she was at the height of her career, and never got off the ground.

We have got past the beach movies, and the outback movies. Hopefully we are moving away from the drug and violence era. So where does that leave us.
What will connect to the Australian movie goer, that is the question.

I really enjoyed this film which surprised me as I don't like Peter Hellier. It wasn't totally original but it was funny and entertaining and that's what we want. I see most Aussie releases (try to support local films) and this was a very pleasant surprise.

Peter Dinklage was wonderful and totally believable as a sweet, romantic man. He is always good value.

I think they made Alice English as it made the very real probability of her leaving to go home wake Jim up and give the situation more urgency.
