Reinforces my belief that Australian movies are trash

No more needs to be said really. Fairly b grade, fairly boring. The main character was a moron, and completely unlikable, and his wife was too!

Also why did the little guy drop dead out of nowhere for no particular good reason? Seemed like a cheap ploy to make the cheap movie a bit more 'serious/emotional'.

ugh totally agree.

To be fair, there was a pretty elaborate set-up for the death. He was taking tablets in one of his earliest scenes ("they're not Viagra"), and before he sets out for that last evening we're shown that he's left the tablets at home. Seems it was related to some heart-related condition.

It could have been whole a lot clumsier.

There are 600-700 films released for cinema in the US every year, and at a guess, you'd struggle to find 50 good ones.

It is unrealistic to expect most Australian films to be good. If you get 5 good ones in 5 years then that would be reasonable. Sometimes they might come in a cluster, like Romper Stomper, Muriel's Wedding and Priscilla. Other times there might be a 5 year drought.

Part of the problem is that America is the big league, and any Australian with talent as an actor, writer or director will get discovered and move there fairly early in their career, meaning the likes of Peter Hellier and Megan Gale are the last ones standing asked to make the movies that nobody wants to see.

We should aim for less movies of higher quality.

I think many of them are pretty good. Red Dog, some good horror films I can't think of right now....

You don't pay an awful lot of attention do you? As far as Aussie films go, this is one of the better ones recently.
