I have noticed how most of the recent DCOM have had female actresses in the title role or the lead star? Are guys bad news for Disney?

Maybe. To this day what do we have. Speaking in terms of success not quality. Most DCOMs have starred girls and the boy-lead ones were OK at best.

Girl vs Monster - Olivia Holt
HSM - Vanessa and Ashley
The only bad one IMO was Zapped starring Zendaya.
Who knows if Kelli and China will do good in a DCOM. But the smart money is on female leads. G, Peyton, Sabrina and Rowan are good candidates for the next DCOM. This one shouldn't count against G. Bella and Madison Pettis are doing Mostly Ghostly which might be a DCOM so them too would work.
But guy stars aren't the key.
Which is a shame because Hutch Dano played a huge douche and was annoying but not too bad.
If they had a girl it wouldn't have had the teeth it had. The best part of this movie was the flouting of gender roles of a boy playing a girl scout leader.
