Aneurin Barnard has been cast as the eponymous lead of Mariah Mundi & the Midas Box.

Jonathan Newman (Swinging with the Finkels, Foster) is directing the live action adaptation of the teen novel series by best-selling author G.P. Taylor. Welsh actor Barnard joins a cast that includes Michael Sheen, Sam Neill, Lena Headey, Keeley Hawes and Ioan Gruffudd.

Barnard made his name in the acclaimed stage production of Spring Awakening, before landing film roles in Ironclad and Hunky Dory. He'll next be seen in British horrors Elfie Hopkins and Guinea Pigs, and recently shot Emanuel and the Truth about Fishes with Jessica Biel.

Adapted for the screen by Gavin Scott (The Borrowers, Small Soldiers), Rob Sprackling, John Smith (Gnomeo & Juliet) and Christian Taylor (Lost, Star Wars: Clone Wars) the story follows seventeen-year-old Mariah whose world is torn apart when his parents suddenly disappear and unknown assailants kidnap his younger brother Felix. With only a mysterious stranger, Charity, to help him, Mariah follows a trail to the majestic Prince Regent hotel. Beneath the many floors of the luxurious hotel, which sits on the edge of a cliff, lurks a secret and sinister underworld filled with shady villains, child snatching creatures and an extraordinary box that turns everyday objects into gold. Will Mariah find his family and live to tell the tale of adventures or will he succumb to the curse of the Prince Regent?

Sheen plays Will Charity, Neill is Luger, Headey has been cast as Monica, and Hawes and Gruffudd will play Mariah's parents.

“I am thrilled to be able to bring Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box to the big screen.” says director Newman in the press release. “GP Taylor’s book combines the best elements of an action adventure film with a strong emotional core and instantly iconic characters. I am lucky to have a strong team around me to bring this unique vision of the 1800s to life and the designs for this world are stunning.

We have assembled a really stellar cast of actors as well as discovering some really exciting new talent for the younger cast members and I am confident that Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box will take the viewer on a unique visual and narrative rollercoaster, with a few cracking surprises along the way.”

He has such a great look. Anyone know what he is doing next?

I would have preferred Frank Dillane.

Does anyone know what else he is up to? Did he sign on for the trilogy?

Despite the bad reviews, this movie still features the hottest Welsh actor EVER --Aneurin Barnard!! See it, if only for him. Besides the film doesn't look that bad, unless you are dreadfully snobbish...and "art house" tween.
