I really wanted to like it.

I haven't read the book, maybe that would have been better than watching the film. I was hoping this would be like Indiana Jones, National Treasure, The Librarian, or even the Jack Hunter series of films.

It felt like a group of high school kids saw an interesting movie, and had permission to refilm it using the sets and costumes.

High school kid #1 tries to write the story based on what he remembered from seeing the original film.

High school kid #2 tries to write dialogue for everyone in the film.

High school kid #3 directs a group of high school actors through the story and dialogue, coming up with a 4-5 hour movie. (I know the actors aren't high school kids, but much of their lines and delivery were pretty bad.)

High school kid #4 tries to edit the bloated 4-5 hour film down to 99 minutes, removing much of the continuity in the process. "Hmm, we just had weird gypsy cards fly around and show a picture of the brother, so naturally we go walking in a strange area where the brother just happens to pop up." "Oh noes, the evil lady is going to somehow kill everyone by clicking a button on a tube! But wait, everyone is saved by the drunk father, who tackles the woman over a railing, instead of just overpowering her and throwing the tube over the railing!"

I agree, littlefuzzy. I was really looking forward to this, and kept hoping it would generate some excitement, but it was pretty dull. I'm hoping, if they do another, that they do it differently.
