Ending? *Spoilers*

Can someone please explain to me if it was Laurie in the mental hospital in the end, or if it was Lia? My mom and I have two different views on this. I think that it was Laurie in the mental hospital in the end, just by how she reacts, as well as when the mother says "I think I'd recognize my own daughter" after she's pulled from the water, and the girl's reaction when she finds out that "Lia's" dead and her body's been cremated.

reply

See, I kinda think that it was Lia, only because whenever their spirits left their bodies, they were still wearing the same clothes. and Lia was wearing the jacket when she jumped in the lake, while Laurie was still wearing the grey jacket. So I think that if Laurie were in the hosipital, she'd be wearing the gray sip up jacket, not the brown one with the furr.

reply

It was Lia in the hospital. They showed Laurie painting at home, Lia couldn't do that.

reply

Yes, that's right. Also, even though they could have changed the ending, the original book has Laurie winning her body back and getting rid of Lia as well.

It was Laurie.

It was Lia in the hospital- she couldn't have been the one at home because she couldn't paint (see CloverTunes' comment above).

reply

It was Lia in the hospital because of the following reasons:

1) Lia screamed because she knew her body wasn't there so she disappeared and the big reason is:

2)I have close captioning on my TV and it said (Lia) screaming "NO" then disappearing.

reply

Yes, I also use closed captioning and it did say Lia screamed in the last scene.

it was def lia in the hospital bc a lot of ppl were upset they didn't follow the author's book which had a diff ending; laurie ended up getting her body and soul back - in the book it was the other way around. also they interviewed the author and she said she was fine w/the change they did for the movie. these things happen a lot w/books turning into movies; they make changes and the author's just go w/it, bc either way they get paid.

lia bit the dust - was cremated w/no possible return

laurie was at home w/her full body and soul - also painting, which is something lia could never do; this is one of the reasons the mother believed her near the end bc she knew her daughter could paint and she saw the help sign on the canvas as well, also her little sister believed her as well - so did jeff who i hope she ended up dating bc he really cared for laurie, and i think she started to like him as well; he was so much cuter than gordorn - even w/the scars jeff had, he was also a nicer and gentler person than gordon who was full of himself.

lia dies
laurie lives

i loved this ending it was great !!!
