Why the tooth fairy?!?

So I watched this movie with my kids, 7, 8 & 9. I knew it wouldn't be completely appropriate, but it was rated PG on Netflix, not PG-13, just PG. I looked at some reviews, etc, and knew there'd be some mild language, bikinis, etc. Not a huge deal.

Then half way in the wife blows away the tooth fairy. Why in the hell would they do that, there are so many other ways she could have 'tramatized' the little girl. This is a movie about families and stars tons of kids, some of whom are famous in their own right. Why would Adam put a family-killing moment in a movie like this?

To make it worse, my youngest had lost a tooth that morning. And my oldest is way on the fence about all this anyway. So I have to come up with some story that since the mother took the job of the tooth fairy, the real one never bothered coming.

I don't know why we perpetuate these stories for our kids anyway. I do I explain there's no such thing as monsters, but there are fairies, elves and giant bunnies that sneek into our house while we sleep?

i agree simpson. there was no need to do that. it wasn't like that scene was funny or needed in the storyline either.

Sadly OP this is exactly why I have to watch "questionable" movies by myself prior to letting our kids see them. That said, seriously what were you thinking???

Your argument regarding the tooth fairy stands, but seriously? Did you really think this was an appropriate movie to watch with young kids? If so shame on you and do your research a little more. IMDB with every movie has a parental guide guide and you writing a post here I should think would know about this. If not well this is your wake up call. Now again to your defence it oddly doesn't mention the tooth fairy scene - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1375670/parentalguide?ref_=tt_ql_7 where I totally think it should and will add a comment myself. But seriously ask yourself, did you really think this was a movie that is kid friendly??? If so then you didn't do your preliminary research as all the sexual content alone I wouldn't have let young children watch it, let alone the tooth fairy.

Now all that said me being a little bit nostalgic about older movies let my two kids watch Gremlins when they were about 8 & 10 and I told them ahead of time there would be some scary parts to which they were totally fine with, however I totally forgot when the girl does the big reveal on Santa Clause and my wife and I about had a heart attack. Luckily for us we dismissed it and the kids bought it, but boy that was a close call... But yeah a movie like "Grown ups" by it's very title I would not watch with kids...
