A study on sociopathy?

Nobody in this movie acted like a normal person. The characters were either rude, intrusive, impulsive, apathetic or plain aggressive. I didn't relate to either one of them, and, frankly, didn't care or find them interesting either.

I wonder if this was the intention of the writer/director, or if the movie was so poorly made that it just came out that way.
