Rubik's Cube [SPOILER]

I loved the depiction of the status of karthik's life at various points in the movie with the help of the rubik's cube that karthik owns.

I got a hint of this only at the end when i saw the SOLVED rubik's cube. Then, i went back to see where else the cube was shown and found that it was shown most of the times in the movie, when karthik is talkin on the phone.

Like when in the beginning, his life is real sad, the cube is in disarray; and as his life begins to get back on track, the cube is shown to be on its way to completion. And then again in cochin, the cube is not complete.

This sort of subliminal messages and metaphors in movies has always enchanted me, and that is yet another reason for me to appreciate this movie even more!

Way to go Vijay Lalwani! Hope this movie has earned u the respect that u deserve! and i doubly hope that ur next movie is as good, if not better, than this one !!

My Rating for this movie: 9/10 for the style of direction, usage of colours and camerawork.

Yeah when I watched the movie I noticed the rubik's cube too, and you're right it was a good movie. 9/10 from me as well.

Gotta agree. The ending was quite amazing. I expected a nihilistic-type of ending with him just ending his life because optimistic endings in a psychothriller usually don't go well together.

However, great work.
Maybe the runtime of the movie should be cut down. And the romantic parts minimised.

If the romantic parts were minimised, it would leave no scope for Deepika. I was happy with her involvement. But I was expecting a better climax.

reply

How so? If they were minimised, it would feature Karthik only. This is a psychothriller, not a romantic movie.

I was NOT intending to say that Deepika's involvement should be minimised. I was making the point that her presence in the movie was perfect. She was required. Plus this is more of a psycho thriller rather than a romantic movie.

reply

Just because she's a famous actress doesn't mean she is required throughout the whole entire movie. I do agree her involvement made this movie look like a typical Hitchcock movie, but as far as how much screentime she had gotten romancing with the protagonist and wasting our time, that was just pure utter disappointment.

I'm not saying that she was required throughout the entire movie. Her involvement did serve some purpose to the plot. Not every movie involves the actress entirly. You may recall "office space" starring Jennifer Anniston. How involvd was she ?.

Deepika however did help Karthik from suicide and because of her negative attitude he was forced to go in to recluse to Cochin.

reply

Okay, if we both are agreeing that yes, she was needed but to a certain extent, why are we arguing then?

I haven't seen Office Space, but AFAIK, it's a Mike Judge movie, which means it's supposed to be a comedy. We're talking about a psychothriller here; it's a whole different genre.

Sorry. I'm not having a argument. But just attempting to justify that her involvement in the movie was requuired. However it is good that we have agreed she was needed.

However I' sure there have been many thrillers that have intergrated the female role to a minimum level.

reply

I think her involvement (as far as finding out about Kartik's problem and trying to help him) was integral, but I think they could have cut at least a couple of songs, and it seemed the burgeoning romance was way too drawn out.

The biggest mistake most bollywood films make despite having a good plot is spend too much time on un necessary love stories forgetting the main plot

This however had a good plot...absolutely no acting by Deepika,,fair acting by Farhan..but first half was too slow
btw-this one is rip off of Shatterday (an episode of Twilight New Zone)

reply

I agree. I think the love track was give a little too much scope. But it was intergrated well in to the main plot. But I'm glad that the second half was well paced and remained loyal to the theme.

Rip off from "twilight zone" episode shatterday ?. Do you have a link to this please.

@hysteria
actually i'd seen the series once on star world(a 7day series) with each day bringing new concept to character's life...each episode was named lik a day of week so saturday's epi named ''shatter day'' was wt KCK copied

reply

Yes the episode is on youtube. I will check it out when I get the time. It looks interesting. Seeing Bruce Willis makes me think Farhan was not the correct choice to play the role.
