Martius was almost bald when he was exiled and then when he steps out of the truck he'd hitched a ride in he looked like kevin costner in waterworld.
to be honest i'd never heard of Antium or the volscis before today (nor had i heard of Coriolanus, in fact) but a quick check on t'internet shows it to be only 60 or so KM from rome.
So how did he grow such a mane, and beard, over such short a distance?
All I can say is that the truck he enters bald is not the same as the one he steps out of later with hair and beard.

in fact my tongue was somewhat in my cheek when i wrote that post but maybe it doesn't come across like that.
in my opinion he was bumming around in the wilderness for some time whilst mulling things over and deciding what to do. he didn't just leave rome and immediately think 'screw you guys, i'm going over to the other side'
by the growth of his hair i would say almost 1 year and half. 2 years top.
