Why did he contact more serial killers?

Surely after his many conversations with Gacy, he should've had enough?

If I EVER started a project like this at all (which I most definitely wouldn't, but still) I sure as hell wouldn't want to talk with more killers after getting in danger myself. Why did he do it? Wasn't he scarred after getting too close to Gacy?
