Im wondering if this part was just for the film to show how dark Jason had become.. or if he really did almost kill someone.

It's been a while since I read the book, but I do recall that Jason did begin to have "dark thoughts" as a result of his interactions with Gacy. If you've ever read Stephen King's "Apt Pupil", it was very similar to that. According to his book anyway. Now were these thoughts actually part of his nature that he was repressing most of the time, (To be honest Jason, by his writing, seemed to have borderline sociopathic tendencies- like manipulating people for a grade.)? Or was this just a case of laying down with some dogs and picking up a few fleas? Only Jason knew...
