About the ending SPOILERS

In the end as they are boarding the plane to fly to Canada her husband shoots Ray Liotta, the FBI guy in the back. Other FBI guys arrest the husband. Clearly he is going to jail for a long time.

Ironically by shooting the FBI guy he changes the entire dynamic of the story. He is off to jail so if the wife and kids returned to the family home, he will no longer be a threat. he won't be around. They could have jumped off the plane and gone home at that point. Sure Mom might have had a few charges to deal with but I'm sure her dark moves could have been excused and seen as necessary to escape the abusive home.
