Anyone read Todd Gitlin?

This to me seems like it was far more likely influenced by his book, Media Unlimited (http://books.google.com/books/about/Media_Unlimited_Revised_Edition.html?id=07xgYdikrp0C), and the effect we have as a first world society from a constant torrent of media and consumerism. I personally love They Live, but I think there's a much deeper approach to this film. Let's hope anyway.
