The white guys english?

The white guys, Ratger and his friends, they both spoke some strange english and had a weird accent aswell. I mean where are they supposed to be from, as they didnt sound British, Irish, American, Australian/NZ or South African. They spoke in a funny sort of way, and could tell they were over or under acting ha ha

lol I noticed this in the beginning of the film. I think I even heard Southern USA or the Old Cowboy Western USA Accent.

It got better by the second half. I think they were aware of it by then.

Originally these 2 actors are from Denmark or somewhere arent they, so i guess English isnt their main lang. I guess maybe they were cast in this movie for thier fighting skills, rather than their acting or speech. Plus i guess they were cheaper to cast, than an American or British actor!!

I actually really liked these actors.

Their acting was good - I like their relationship. The main boss is really bada$$, he takes charge and is able to control all who are under him. What's really nice is he an back up his ferocity with his fists! most Martial Arts films resort to an ADDITIONAL end boss to fight against.

The second actor (kicker) also provides the rational side of the group. One of my favorite scenes is dialogue they share off screen (after the rape in the suite) where he tells him Yuda is tearing up downstairs and its best they should leave. When the boss replies "F that! I want to see him!" His reply I like the best:

"I've followed you my whole life. And that's not about to change. I ask this once. Let this one go. Let's go home."

The speech issue is minimal. After all this is an Indonesian film so we are dealing with foreign languages anyway.

It was a great casting decision by the crew!

The boss is from Denmark and his sidekick from France. All you have to do is to check this here on IMDB. I don't know why unknown european actors should eb cheaper to cast than unknown american actors, but okay, that's your logic.
But I think the resultion is much more simple. The guy from Denmark was also casted in one of the directors previous films and he seems to be a director who likes to keep his cast, as you can see if you compare Merantau to The Raid.
The french guy is an professional stuntman and action choreographer, so I guess he was just casted because of his fighting skills and was probably also involved in the action choreographie of this film.

They sounded Danish. The taller one sounded French at one point, at no point did either of them sound at all american however so am an unsure as to where you got that from.

reply

Terrible actors, both of them.
