Well, I played some Tomb Raider games in PS1. I think those are good games, but after the fourth or fifth installments the story became convoluted and all over the place. But I digress because if I'm not mistaken this movie is based on the new games on PS4 which I don't have.

Also, the Angelina Jolie's version was quite good. But this version is likely have younger Lara Croft so I think Alicia Vikander is a great choice.

The new movie is made after the 2013 video game ( a good game ,actually, not perfect ,but good ),now the jolie version had nothing in common with the games,it was like i see a james bond movie and not a tomb raider.I hope that Lara won't be moked again by hollywood. You said on ps4 ,but i have an xbox one and i'm going to buy the old trilogy on xbox360, because the xbox one console can read them and ps4 cannot.😉

Well, I'm not very familiar with new games. As you can see, I'm old since my game console of youth was a PS1. Which is still working since 1997 along with one of the original controller (which to be fair I didn't use much because they were not the DualShock version). Still, quite amazing for a 20 years old tech!

I also has the O.G. Xbox. Sadly, it doesn't work anymore. It turns on just fine, but cannot actually play any games.

I didn't recall that Jolie's Lara were mocked by Hollywood... I thought they were ones of the very few succesful videogame movies alongside Resident Evil series.

The Resident Evil films are hated and derided by anyone with even a dash of cinematic awareness. The first Tomb Raider film, less so. But it still isn't well liked. There has never been a film based on a video game that has been considered a genuinely good film. But Tomb Raider is probably the best of a bad bunch.

I think Alicia Viakander is an awesome choice for Lara and I'd love it if this film turned out to be good. The reboot games it's based on are superb and would make a great film if done well.

But even with the fantastic pedigree of Assassin's Creed, that film still turned out to be terrible. So while I think this Tomb Raider has the biggest chance of breaking the video game adap curse, I still think it will probably fail.

Lets hope they prove me wrong.

Sadly it wont break the "curse",but it will be fun to compare the game with the movie after will be release.I heard that will came out later this year, only time will tell. The re movies aren't great, has many lacks in the story, missing characters without any explanation, but still they are fun to watch, especially the final chapter, wich is the most hated movie from the entire franchise,it wont be the same without milla, tough if they want to reboot it.

Whaa.. Resident Evil series get bajillion of sequels. How can that be hated and derided... who watch those movies then?

I'd say the second Jolie's Tomb Raider is more hated. It didn't have any sequel because nobody would watch it.

Videogames movies are different kind of movies. They don't need any real story. What they need is a "face." A representation of the player of the game. Then use him or her to guide the audience into the game world.

That's what Assassins Creed worst mistake. They attempted to create a real movie with a real story. People don't care about the story in a videogame movie. Videogames stories are not a real story anyway. They're just an excuse for gameplay. Succesful games are determined by the gameplay first and foremost, a nice, servicable story is just the icing on the cake.

Don't be too serious on the story. It hurts the pacing because videogame story is usually has too many non-essential character that has purpose on gameplay to prolongs the play time. Games are usually 6 to 10 hours long. It needs some fillers and a long-winded interactions of some of the characters. They don't work in movies.

Most movie watchers are not an avid gamer. They've heard Tomb Rider, or maybe played some of the old games (like me). These people knows some of the characters and what the game is all about in a rather simple terms.

Tomb Raider is about a girl called Lara Croft searching for artifacts and solving ancient puzzles then got some pew pew action againts some animals and a mysterious organisation with disposable thugs.

Show that and add some non-convoluted storylines. Use minimal budget necessary. The important bit is just being creative with the action scenes. Fast & Furious style creativity. Resident Evil style creativity. The more outrageous and non-realistic the better. Afterall, it's a videogame movie.
