Orlando's accent

i was just wondering if anyone is worried about whether or not Orlando Bloom can pull off the NC accent? especially seeing as his american one in Elizabethtown was not that good and sounded pretty forced. (and that was just a general American accent, not regional).
Actors speaking in the wrong accents are one of my pet peeves and I'm afraid this might keep me from actually enjoying the film....
Cheers.

Yeah I thought about that too, especially since I live in NC. Most people exaggerate too much on the accent and do a generic "southern" one when there really are a lot of variations depending on where you go (like the mountains are different than the coast and piedmont). We'll see how it goes :/

Accents from the Southern states are tough for anyone to pull off, regardless of who is doing it. I've heard some that sounded okay to my Northern ears, but someone from the area being depicted usually chimes in to say it was atrocious. On the bright side, even if he doesn't pull it off, it STILL won't be as bad as Jean Claude van Damme trying to pass himself off as a born-and-bred Pittsburgher with his obvious Belgian accent in Sudden Death. Dude didn't even try. Though that was the least of that movie's problems.

I don't believe anything can be as bad as "Jean Claude van Damme trying to pass himself off as a born-and-bred Pittsburgher"

Probably not, but Bruce Willis and the late Robert Pastorelli trying to pass their NYC accents off as born-and-bred Yinzers in Striking Distance probably runs a close second. Seriously, guys, it's a tough accent to pull off but you're actors. Work with a dialogue coach and ACT.

Here, I'll give you a little bit of help:

The Queen's English:

"My afternoon commute from the city center was marred by being situated in my car directly behind a mature, blue collar gentleman driving far under the speed limit (ten miles per hour, to be exact) with his turn signal activated from start to finish. And when I arrived at my destination, I lost my footing and collapsed into a bit of thorny vegetation. At least I can count on a delicious meal. Please visit and partake, because we have more than we need."

Pittsburghese:

"Goin' home from dahntahn sucked because I got stuck drivin' behin' some old millhunk goin' ten mow'an'ahr wit' 'is blinker on the whole way. Then when I got outta 'da car, I fell into a jagger bush. At least I had some stuff'd cabbidge waitin' for me inna kitchen. Hey, stop up the hahse, we got plenny'a leftovers."

I'll take my fee in untraceable bills and Taylor Kitsch's discretion, please and thank you, Hollywood.

Not bad actually, I've heard worse Durham accents(i.e. Cary Elwes in Kiss the Girls - it sounded New Orleans mixed with Alabama). There are so many different kinds of southern accents, it's hard to pin-point perfectly which area you're trying to do. A Durham, NC twang is different from a Boone, NC one, ya know? But I think he did an ok job. We'll see when the movie comes out I suppose.

Not a big Orlando Bloom fan but his accent is pretty good in this

I am now a checkerboard chick!

I do have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't sure what to prepare myself for, so when his English accent was completely non-existent, I was quite shocked.

And I got rather soured on him after his roles in the Pirates movies, so I was ready to pounce on a bad southern accent from him, lol.
