Why did the letters stop coming?
I may have missed something here, but why did the letters stop coming?

shareI didn't understand this either - it seemed he went from getting a whole pile of letters to none, from one day to the next. It can't have been because the postman was scared of Laila, as he had a good relationship with the priest and wouldn't have wanted to prevent him from getting his mail. And after Laila confronted the postman, he agreed to pretend to bring mail, so there obviously weren't any real letters. Seems strange that the letters stopped so suddenly in conjunction with Laila's arrival. I think it would have worked better if the letters had petered out more gradually.
