Pearce's skull

In an interesting - and aptly macabre - postcript to this story, Pearce's head was severed after his execution and sent to an American phrenologist. Apparently it spent many years on display for the 'edification' of public and students alike in a glass case at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and it remains there to this day (though whether it's still on display I couldn't say). Pearce and his mates were driven to extreme measures in the struggle to survive, and undoubtedly at some point blood-lust did take hold of the party; but as the professor muses at the end of Cannibal Holocaust, you have to wonder who the real savages are.
