Why did it take so long to make a Iron Maiden theatrical film?

Iron Maiden has been active for almost 30 years, and I can see an animated based on their music and album art.

Why did it take 30 years?
And why is it a documentary?
Don't get me wrong, I'm excited and I'm seeing it!

As much as I love Iron Maiden, movies about specific artists/bands don't have as much of a wide-ranging theatrical appeal as straightforward 'movies' (ie. romance, action, sci-fi, etc.).

Anytime a movie is played at a multiplex, it's an investment because that particular film is using a time slot that could be used to show something that could draw more attendance. While we've seen all the recent trailers for Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana concert movies, to be honest you'll pack a house with preteens and their parents doling out cash so their kids can see them much faster than for Flight 666. It's all about money.

Bruce Dickinson has more talent in his pinkie than the two bands I just previously mentioned. Iron Maiden fans aren't nearly as numerous in many parts of the country while the other two 'perform' non-threatening bubblegum pop that parents like.

Iron Maiden has loads of concert DVD's out there (both legit and otherwise) and I feel they finally get their just due on the big screen. I hope that the movie is a big success.

UP THE IRONS...
