The Giant 'Somewhere in Time' Eddie

I saw Maiden on the second leg of this tour in June 2008. When the giant Eddie came out on stage during "Iron Maiden", I assumed that this was merely a man on stilts.

However the film makes it clear that the giant Eddie was at least partially radio controlled. Was there a man inside like I thought and just the, e.g., head was radio controlled? Or was the whole thing a radio controlled robot? Does anyone know how the giant Eddie worked?

I didn't see the tour but my jaw dropped when he turned up on the Flight 666 DVD. What a fantastic prop (sorry Eddie), he had to be a man on stilts with someone controlling other aspects though.

A giant walking anamatronic would be extremely expensive not to mention really really difficult to make. Apparently walking is a very had thing to recreate.

Why quote other people when I like the sound of my own voice?

I think you're right. Thanks for the reply.

I'm quite certain that the walk-on Eddie is mostly controlled by a man on stilts.

I think the roadcrew were messing around for the cameras to make it look like they were controlling him with the radio transmitter. The turning head might be the only part that they were remotely controlling.
