Why would chick like Kate Hudson's character marry Franco

Apart from all the logical flaws in the movie, no one seems to have mentioned this. Franco is poor, he failed at making a decent living as a landscape artist (most people in this profession make squat in US) and then turned into a contractor. HTF did Franco's character manage to bag a chick who looks like Hudson? If it's because Franco is attractive, then she would have screwed him or been in a relationship with him but never marry him, at least that's what usually happens. Her looks would give her plenty of options when it came to marriage. Does this happen a lot in Chicago?

I think OP is referring to women's natural instinct of hypergamy.

The answer. She'll tire of him and look to trade up. Unless the character is .. er.. well endowed in other aspects.

he is relatively attractive, but even average guys can get a hot girl, with personality, charm, money, etc....lots of other things besides looks, believe me, I know.

No, that's not what 'usually happens', not with real people anyway. It happens 'usually' in the media and Hollywood, but those are generally a different kind of people--and more luck to 'em, hope it makes 'em happy.
