It is Elly's bag, and her fiance is taking it home. That part is easy to explain. As for the significance of the final shot of it, I also wonder what that is about, and do not have a good explanation.



Downwards is the only way forwards.

Ive noticed a few people mentioned this and thought it was strange. My impression was that is was just a kind of sad moment where he is thinking how the bag is all he is taking back with him. Kind of like one of those scenes where a child dies in a hospital and the mother holds the childs stuffed toy or blanket like its the only thing left. That moment of realization. Thats my feeling from it but i could be totally off.
