TERRIBLE!!!!!

I'm only 55 minutes into this film and it's TERRIBLE. The characters are not likable... the storyline is dry... and how do you make a comedy about cutting??? I want my 55 minutes back....

reply

Agreed... this is quite frightening. Much more frightening than the book imo.

reply

I think its great! I think Joan Cusack is horrible in it, but the rest, so far, are relatively likeable. I really like the main character.

reply

Right-- doesn't it seem like Joan Cusack is the SAME character in all her movies?

SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I felt sorry for the main character... I can totally relate. I only applied to Vassar when I was a senior. . .

reply

I can totally relate to her also. Now I am a college teacher, but I remember te application process. And yes, Joan Cusack plays the exact same character every single movie! It's annoying.

reply

Right. How funny. I'm adjunct... :) Okay, I'm thinking the second hour is better than the first. I just wished we knew a little more about the characters, but I guess there's only so much you can do with two hours (with commercials).

reply

I'm adjunct too, at 4 schools. Isn't it great :)

reply

Wow, and I thought I had it hard adjuncting at two schools. Ah, the life of an adjunct. :)

reply

Apparently you guys haven't seen a lot of Joan Cusack movies...

I hope to set an example, you know, for children and stuff...

reply

Maybe Joan is too quriky for their tastes, perhaps!!!

Joan Cusack was the only reason that I watched the movie. It was bad. Not horrible, just boring. As much as I love Joan, I think she overacted. Plus, the story itself seemed to drag on. I ended up taking a shower thirty minutes into the movie since I was so bored. When I returned fifteen or twenty minutes later, it didn't seem like I missed much.

I'm with you, Ms moss. I got bored, flipped channels and resolved to catch the last 15 minutes 'whenever'. I figured it would air again.

Joan Cusack was my ONLY reason for watching. I found the kids to be insipid, dreadfully boring and just not at all interesting. It was the first time I'd watched an ensemble performance where no one made me care about them. The protagonist's penchant for stealing mail just seemed SO contrived and ueslessly so. It seemed, well, stupid. Even after the lengthy analysis as to why she did it, it still amounted to 'stupid'. Perhaps I just don't understand this particular teenage girl.

I had hoped for more classic Joan. I LOVED her in IN & OUT. She was ace. In this movie, not so much. Oh, and Grace had a habit of weird pauses in her delivery. Distracting and somewhat irritating.

reply

I liked this movie (probably because I've been a Mae Whitman fan since her short lived show State of Grace).

Joan Cusack's character in this is nothing like her character in Addams Family Values or Where the Heart Is or In and Out...just sayin...
